Two men were arrested by police armed with AK-47 on Thursday in Por Senchey, Phnom Penh, part of the "Red Zone". The men were allegedly smoking cigarettes and hanging out. The police passed by and the men gave them middle finger.
The two men hurt the cop's feelings so he called for backup. Shortly after a large squad turned up to arrest the cigarette smoking men. They were arrested and forced down on the ground at gunpoint.

Those are Flying Tigers, an elite police force. Anybody who has a brain would know not to antagonize them.

There are plenty of Facebook videos of these guys travelling around with guns and canes being generally aggressive and being dicks with the general public.
They are making 'offenders' stand in stress positions, do press ups and hitting them with rattan canes.
Here's a question to the foreigners here, how would you respond if these guys descended on your area next week and tried some of these things with you for some minor perceived infraction?

I doubt they cane or hassle middle class Cambodians just the ‘hoi polloi’ who don’t know any better or, generally, cowtow to authorities and the police know this.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 7:06 amThere are plenty of Facebook videos of these guys travelling around with guns and canes being generally aggressive and being dicks with the general public.

Last night at about 9pm a lad was stopped by about six cops outside my house. Lots of shouting, by them, and pushing. A brand new Lexus 570 rolls by and one cop was obliged to stop him as he was blocking his way. This guy was pretty loud and said they can’t stop him because he’s friends with blah blah (wife translated) and besides he’d been busy at blah blahs house. They saluted him and off he went.
I doubt they’d assault any barang for the possible backlash or bollocking they’d receive!
Although it’d fun to watch especially some cantankerous old French dude. I love it when they get angry in broken English. Hilariously hilarious Hilarious .

I am consistently amazed at the apparent lack of comprehension by some as to what some of the measures implemented lately truly mean to the poor and working class here. It's amusing in a twisted sort of way to see the posts on expat forums cheering the strong and decisive actions taken while in another thread relating the story of how they managed to get through a road block without the proper documentation for a reason that is not currently allowed by the lockdown rules.
If I understand the amended lockdown rules correctly the only reason to leave the house is for essential food and health reasons. There is a massive difference between expected rule compliance and consequences being voiced for the dirty poor and themselves. This has been true worldwide. Many of the most vocal supporters of the strictest measures (for others) seem to believe their fanatical support of these actions entitles them to certain indulgences and exceptions.
While many have to deal with such inconveniences as their selection of Italian restaurants being limited over in the red zone some poor family is working to secure a double digit interest loan from a shark so they get to buy some tinned fish and soy sauce while wondering how to keep 2 kids entertained in their 9 sq meter shack. Luckily now they get a chance to get outside to get tested. What happens if mom tests positive and the rest of the family doesn't? Who knows and who cares... By hosting the virus they have sided with the enemy in the war on Covid.

The current mindset and analogies to war are alarming as it seems a lot of poor people are increasingly being viewed as the enemy.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Christ,
Those 2 dudes look like they have enough on their plate living in those sweat boxes.
Looks like something the Japs used to punish prisoners, in The Bridge over the River Kwai.

There have been some fairly well shared videos online showing them hitting people.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 4:16 pmThey come through my area regularly, joint Police/ Gendarmerie patrols. they shout at people to get off the streets etc but so far I haven't seen them hitting anyone.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 7:06 amHere's a question to the foreigners here, how would you respond if these guys descended on your area next week and tried some of these things with you for some minor perceived infraction?
There was one yesterday which showing them pulling a tuktuk driver out of the can by the scruff of his neck and the journalist suddenly found something interesting to video in the sky.
He had been providing a ongoing commentary for the previous ten mins but went uncharistically quiet for 30 seconds until he found something else to video.
The video journalists are pretty pally with the soldiers and probably have been warned about what they can video and broadcast.

Sure, but like I said don't fuck around with Flying Tigers, Intervention Police, Gendarmerie or BHQ guys, or 9-11. They will do a lot worse to you when the cameras are off.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 5:05 pmThere have been some fairly well shared videos online showing them hitting people.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 4:16 pmThey come through my area regularly, joint Police/ Gendarmerie patrols. they shout at people to get off the streets etc but so far I haven't seen them hitting anyone.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 7:06 amHere's a question to the foreigners here, how would you respond if these guys descended on your area next week and tried some of these things with you for some minor perceived infraction?
