Kampong Cham Province: At least 50 high school students of varying ages were rushed to hospital after experiencing weakness, vomiting and fainting at about 8:30 in the morning of the 24th of October, 2011, at the Boh Knao High School in Village 25, Bos Khnaor Commune, Chamkar Leu District.
According to the account of students, a teacher, angered at the lack of respect shown by students towards the Cambodian flag , who did not salute it upon entering as is the custom of the school, meted out corporal punishment on the students by making them stand directly exposed under the sun for half an hour while facing the flag and singing a patriotic song. After the lapse of the half hour, another head teacher abruptly appeared on the scene and ordered the punishment to be prolonged 30 minutes longer. What brought on the subsequent weakness, vomiting and fainting experienced by the students (who were between the ages of 13 and 20) was not only the ordeal of being subjected to the fierce rays of the sun, but was also due to the weakened state of the some of the student s who had not breakfasted.
According to a news source, the students who had fainted were immediately rushed to the Bos Khnaor Health Centre, then afterwards transferred to the Chamkar Leu District Referral Hospital where they were injected and oxygenated and are now recovering. A doctor affirmed that all the students are recovering and that their illness was nothing more than a weakened state caused by a lack of oxygen.

Seriously, though, it's unbelievable. Dread to think what would have happened had they been Thai students doing that in the land of grimaces!
O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven

Next time they should make them stand in the sun, on top of an ant's nest. That'll put an end to their fainting nonsense, the disrespectful little cop-out twits.

Jesus, they make kids soft these days, remember when I was a kid, spent a few months in the middle east, used to go down to the market every day, in a dry heat of 40c , took about 40 minutes cycling each way.
Done a 3 hour walk home from a nightclub in Turkey, up & down hills it was 30c even at 3am in the morning lol, spent all me dosh on booze so didn't have the 30 quid approx taxi fair back home (and left the CC's at home).
When I was in thailand walked everywhere where I was in the north, they thought I was the mad farang lol.
No bloody stamina these days. Ha!

Loved the photo KIR.
I watched bridge over the river kwai twice on cable a few weeks ago-great flick still.
I have the bio of the actual british commander there, one hell of a man.
The biggest problem for the japanese was that the officers refused to work like the enlisted men.
I would have punished the pompous pricks as well.
I have been to kanchanaburi and know the real story of the bridge-probably boring as hell for the young pups.
