Did Angelina Jolie knowingly pay $25,000 to a Cambodian mass murderer for a piece of land?
Angelina Jolie has been accused of paying a former member of Cambodia's murderous Khmer Rouge regime $25,000 for two plots of land.
The actress, who runs a charity in Cambodia, is said to have bought the land from Ta Tith, a former leader of the Khmer Rouge which was responsible for genocide in the late 1970s.
Ta Tith is one of three Khmer Rouge leaders wanted by the United Nations for crimes against humanity.
A former employee of Ms Jolie told the Global Post that the actress directed him to buy two plots of land, totalling 225 acres, for more than $25,000 from Ta Tith in 2002.
Ms Jolie adopted her eldest child, Maddox, from a Cambodian orphanage the same year.
The actress, who was awarded Cambodian citizenship in 2005, runs the charitable Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation from a district called Samlot - a former hotbed of the Khmer Rouge-controlled Cambodian communist party.
It is in that area that she is said to bought the land.
A local government administrator confirmed that the land had been controlled by the Khmer Rouge, and that Tith was badly in need of cash when he allegedly sold it to Ms Jolie.
The administrator said: 'The Prime Minister had given the land in this area to former Democratic Kampuchea (the Communist party run by the Khmer Rouge soldiers) and Tith sold the land to her because he badly needed money'
He said: 'She has title of ownership.'
Ms Jolie's former employee, Mounh Sarath, openly admits that he and the actress are no longer on good terms, as they have been in dispute over contract obligations of more than $1.5million for five years.
However he alleges that he is certain Ms Jolie had at least a vague understanding of Tith's role within the Khmer Rouge when she bought the land.
'She knows that Tith and everybody are the Khmer Rouge,' Mr Sarath told the Global Post.
'We talked like we have to, like Mr Tith is a big man there and he's very important person. ... So she knows that,' Mr Sarath said.
Since the purchase of the land nine years ago, Tith's role in the Khmer Rouge has become much clearer.
In 2009, the United Nations charged him with crimes against humanity between 1977 and 1979, linking him closely with 13 specific incidents.
Court documents say that Tith was the commander in charge of an area of Cambodia where nearly 600,000 people died under the Khmer rule.
There was no response from Ms Jolie's publicist when contacted by MailOnline.

Scandal: Angelina Jolie and the Khmer Rouge
Story linkage - Mounh Sarath, who runs the NGO Cambodian Vision in Development claims that AJ knew she was buying land from "Grandfather Tith", the former KR deputy and one of the Case 004 defendants. Mounh Sarath has been a bit miffed with Angelina for the past several years ever since she decided to cut funding for his NGO (after suspicions of misappropriation of funds) and start her own.

Totally, who the hell else would you expect in that area? Anyway, at $111 per acre it was a bit of a steal, I doubt Mounh Sarath got much juice for his SUV out of that, but he probably did a bit better when he ripped her off blind running her organization.Uncle Monty wrote:As everyone in Samlot was former Khmer Rouge at that time can't see what the problem is.
Who Gives a Fuck?
Just out of curiosity.. is she putting the land to good use.. or has she built a villa and rich gals playground.. As I cant bring myself to believe that the KR dude would of actually done anything better with the land, it may be just a non story or in fact a good deed by sugertits.

Being very busy, she rarely gets to visit the place, but as far as I know it's supposed to be allowed to go fallow, as a wildlife refuge. I don't think there's anything fancy about it, and she has complained that there are probably still mines on her land.

Look at the foundation website http://www.mjpasia.org/, they have offices in Battambang and Samlot and staff. It is a functioning NGO.redrider1 wrote:Just out of curiosity.. is she putting the land to good use.. or has she built a villa and rich gals playground.. To give her her due, she's known to donate something like 20% of her income to good causes. I'd like to see some of the other so-called "do-gooders" like Bono do anything like as much.redrider1 wrote:in fact a good deed by sugertits.

Most of the stuff she does here is under the radar and has done a fair few things to help the Samlot area but without promoting her charitable activities which is refreshing.
I have been to the website and it is very impressive.
They seem to have targeted all the right areas and are doing a lot for the people of this isolated region.
From agriculture, micro finance to healthcare this seems to be a really worthwhile NGO-others could take note.
The micro finance thing is interesting.
They polled the locals and found that 67% of them had debts averaging $650 that required servicing at 3-5% a month.
Debt is the killer in the third world that causes the loss of land to money lenders.
I applaud angelina and the land purchase rubbish is just a beat up-after all there are some rather powerful people who were also ex KR.

Have to agree with this;Uncle Monty wrote:As everyone in Samlot was former Khmer Rouge at that time can't see what the problem is.
with so many ex KR owning land and selling it, whats the big deal?
He was ex KR
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
Yep, gotta back AJ for the most part. Like many "artists," she is a bit, shall we say eccentric, at times, but she does seem sincere and has done some good things for the people without looking for publicity.
Long article in the CD too. I don't know what the story is.
