If nothing else, hopefully they will stop people from climbing all over Angkor much like they did with Uluru."We're going to take the experience Australians gain managing Uluru and other world heritage sites, and see that in this great site," Mr Carr said.

Maybe they could put the money into doing an audit on ticket sales and revenue.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Well said!Lucky Lucan wrote:Maybe they could put the money into doing an audit on ticket sales and revenue.
What Bob Carr omitted to say was that the Pitjantjatjara traditional owners of Uluru spend their 'gate money' on cars which they quickly destroy and indulging their families' tastes for dope and alcohol.

I can't see a problem with that. The goverment gets it all back in the way of taxes. Give with one hand and take back with the other.

I see, so they've introduced a dope tax while I've been away - that Julia is so clever!
And how much of this $1,000,000 is going to Angkor Temples and how much to line officials pockets
"OM Shanti"
Yep, it's assessed , issued and collected by the police and justice system. Been in for years.Nasty Canasta wrote:I see, so they've introduced a dope tax while I've been away - that Julia is so clever!

Uh, I wouldn't worry too much. The Australians have some very experienced people in Siem Reap. Wait and see what it's earmarked for.

Actually it appears to be a re-announcement of something that was already announced in 2008.
For what it’s worth, according to those reports the Cambodian government is contributing almost as much cash to this UNESCO-administered project as the Australian government is.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that the Feds were planning on arresting Hun To.

I hope not, climbing Uluru in the early ’90s was a seminal experience for me, and I ran out of daylight last time I was at Angkor to do the same there.shizzle wrote: If nothing else, hopefully they will stop people from climbing all over Angkor much like they did with Uluru.

I agree! There must be at least 5-10 thousand visitors a day paying $20. That's 10-20 grand a day. Why would they need the money if they're already making this much money!!Lucky Lucan wrote:Maybe they could put the money into doing an audit on ticket sales and revenue.
