http://somanorodom.wordpress.com/Soma wrote:Royal Rebel’s New Column
Another new chapter in my life was written, and this time it is in print. Chris Dawe, CEO, and Ross Dunkley, Publisher, of the Phnom Penh Post, the number one newspaper in the country, have been recruiting me since the beginning of the year to work for them. Only three reasons would change my mind; make an impact on the country, educate the young generations, and somehow be a pioneer, despite the Post being here for 20 years in Cambodia. The Executive Staff fulfilled my request and on June 1, 2012, my first column titled, “Royal Rebel, the Social Agenda with Soma Norodom”, was published in both English and Khmer versions, page 2, of the Phnom Penh Post.
The column’s byline was the creation of the publisher, but I was able to choose the colors of purple and gold, as a tribute to my favorite sports team, the Los Angeles Lakers. What makes this column unique and is considered a “Pioneer” is my weekly commentaries about the social issues affecting Cambodia. Since its 30+ years civil war, the country is in a re-developing stage, and the progression of Cambodia has grown rapidly within the last several years. To mark it’s 20th anniversary, The Phnom Penh Post wanted to re-define how the media and press is portrayed, and with this new column, it validates the country’s “Freedom of Expression”, but as for “Freedom of the Press”, we will have to wait and see.
Many of my biggest supports like Sophia, Nin, Anida, Leana, Sean, and Aaron, loved the first column, ”The state of the media in Cambodia.” My family was not too keen on my new job as a Columnist, especially my mother, who found out from her nephew, from the internet. My new gig as a Columnist was on every Khmer websites, which many Khmer-Americans in the U.S. read for updates about Cambodia, posted, “Princess Soma Norodom’s new column will cover pressing issues that others are afraid to bring up.” With this kind of statement, it’s enough to make your mother call you on a Friday evening and tell her what she thinks. My father was worried, and my sister, Seda, is supportive, and just told me to be safe, and that she loves me.
On a more positive note, my biggest supporter is my uncle, Prince Sisowath Sirirath who texted me Friday morning, when the paper came out, and commented, “Congratulations sweet niece on your new article appearing in the Phnom Penh Post. Chasmir is very proud of you. Well recognized national Khmer Princess of high education.”
To all my family and friends: Please don’t worry about me and hope you honor my wish. When I was young, I only wanted to be a journalist, (or Barbara Walters), and this is my opportunity to fulfill my main duty as a real journalist; To seek out the truth, in the interests of the public’s right to know, whatever the consequences to him or herself.
I am the chosen one and this is my destiny.

I see the Phnom Penh Post has gone even further down the drain and decided to publish a column by Princess "Coma" Soma Norodom. Despite having had the advantages of an American education, this brain-dead socialite proves once again that inbreeding is a bad idea.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Further proving dunkley really has gone off the rails since his incarceration....
Soma is full of herself. Read her blog about the wedding. "I am one of the future leaders of Cambodia"

Were the sub editors taking a long lunch when this column was submitted?proyat wrote:Further proving dunkley really has gone off the rails since his incarceration....

Scroll through that blog.some very familiar faces.and then a classic photo of dumpy little soma and her friends throwing out the gangbanger west side sign "because we are all from Cali". seems like she'll go to the opening of a tuna can.

As the saying goes. she couldn't write fuck on a dusty Venetian blind. There are plenty of talented Khmer bloggers out there who have far more interesting things to say so shame on the Post for hiring someone so undeserving.

the post hire other questionable columnists too, not only her.
I'm looking forward to learn from her pioneering knowledge in LA Laker. That's some skills she entrust the "future leaders" with.

Well she is indeed deeply concerned about Cambodia's most pressing social issues, "Due to the status of the family (Leakhena’s dad, His Excellency, Mr. Naren Cheth, is a former Ambassador of Cambodia), attending a wedding like this takes lots of preparation. The most important question(s) is: what am I going to wear, and who am I bringing to the wedding? Several of my girlfriends have been preparing for this wedding for over a month, and so have I, and the day finally arrived."

I have a new goal to add to my life objectives - to never appear in any way, shape or form within the pages of that execrable blog. There's nothing like reading about the elite fawning over each other.

The first chapter in her Cambodian life was hosting a talk show on Pannasastra radio. I was invited to be a guest. I declined.
I came, I argued, I'm out
