Shutting down the shishas
gary, hookah is the other way round... you suck...
and hanno, thats entirely untrue... shisha tobacco might have SOME nicotine, but by far not as much as a packet of cigarettes...
it is claimed, that the inhalation is more unhealthy than that of a packet of cigarettes, but this claim lacks evidence/scientific research...
nobody smokes shisha for the nicotine...
who is btw the owner of that hookah place, with the (you couldnt make it up) JAPANESE touch/restaurant on street 19 (next to the torn down dine inthe dark and some empty sandwhich place) ?
barely seen a more stupid place, really...

i used to smoke both cigarettes and Shisha when I worked in the Middle East. I was a 2-pack-a-day smoker but the first puff of Shisha would still make my eyes water. I had the feeling I inhaled much deeper and that the tobacco content was much higher than with a regular fag.

ok, might depend on where in the middle east, as at some place they smoke "real" tobacco in there...
but what is sold here is not really tobacco... its molasses-tobacco-mix with some flavor and very little nicotine contents...
and without the most dangerous stuff that is added to tobacco-cigarettes...

The average shisha-smoking session lasts an hour and research has shown that in this time you can inhale the same amount of smoke as from more than 100 cigarettes.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

As an aside I did enjoy smoking that apple Shisha with my Iranian ex-gf's mum.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
There is a really popular Sisha bar on 118 before 19, some nights thete are 50 motos or more parked out front. What do they do in there?

how much is the shisha on 51, and what place exactly is it ?
kebab bar? where is there a kebab bar?
$8 but I get a discount because I'm a nice guy and a regular. It's opposite Howies and the staff are fantastic
Please don't go there potty. I'd have to find a new place to relax.
seems hard to avoid you bozo in PP, as you seem to hang out just everywhere...
what flavor is recommendable there ?
what charcoal/tobacco do they have (brands)...?

The owner of the Japanese restaurant is a young ish Japanese fella, can't remember his name, but hes a nice guy and always friendly. It appears there are some Middle Eastern guys who are running the shisha monopoly around the 172 area, supplying the hookahs, charcoal and tobacco to several restaurants including Calebs (?) On the corner of 172 & 13.potty wrote: who is btw the owner of that hookah place, with the (you couldnt make it up) JAPANESE touch/restaurant on street 19 (next to the torn down dine inthe dark and some empty sandwhich place) ?

The sandwich shop is Buffalo Sister, best roast meat sandwiches in town imo, and hardly always empty.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Very true. I heard one shisha is actually the equivalent of about 40 cigs. Two or three of the Gulf States have also banned them on health grounds, much to the chagrin of the locals. A lot of the customers were young, middle-class women apparently.Hanno wrote:Well potty, the British Heart Foundation, along with many other respected organizations, disagrees: http://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/prev ... hisha.aspx

The cops in Siem Reap visited the shisha bars here this afternoon, told them they had to close and confiscated the hookah pipes, by order of the SR Governor.

Don't worry. I can remember the other thousand things they ban every year that are still around.

I'd say most will survive, but a lot of the closed door khmer teen shisha spots will disappear.
Whoever opened the "Ruby Hookah" bar on the other end of 172 three or four days back is gonna be pissed . . .
That is precisely what will happen. The dodgy 'behind closed' doors aiming at the khmer market will likely be targeted; if anywhere are likely to be using drugs, it's those, and most are in residential areas. I see them springing up all over the place. A new place, for example, is opening between 57 and 63 on, I think, 294 soon.
Ruby Hookah is run by the same people who run the kebab bar / shisha place on Street 51 that rebo and I have been known to frequent once or twice. I've not tried the new place yet - I don't like the enclosed venues, and prefer instead to watch the (under)world go by.
Kennzo wrote:+1 agree unlikely to happen.scobienz wrote:Load of arse: this simply isn't going to happen.
THe idea that there is a profiliferation of these places frequented by foreigners is nonsense. The vast majority are for Khmers only, and the only three that I can think of that have regular foreign customers are Beirut, the other place on Sisowath quay and the place on Street 51, all of which can hardly be seen to be areas where local residents are in danger of being disturbed by shisha places alone.
Interesting. Very.pattyflipper wrote:

Most of the places mentioned here in Phnom Penh have been successful restaurants before this shisha thing kicked off anyways.
We shall see.
at the japanese place the hookah is $6 until 6pm i think...
the place looks very clean and he has good tobacco faik...
the japanese puristic design is just a bit too far from the hookah flair...
i would find it completely ridiculous to close shisha places for "health reasons", while the food here is often close to fatal and everyone drives without helmet...
perhaps the buffalo sandwich delivers some food, actually, but otherwise its 95% of the time i pass by empty...
