I am so glad that those evil Shisha have been taken off the road; Cambodia should be a much safer place now......

That's a great placard, they've obviously nailed down all the problems round Kampong Som.
Also, no mention of holding kittens to ransom.

I'm glad the government is finally taking the safety of our children seriously. I'm now considering starting a family here.
^ And again, why couldn't they have released that awesome list of shisha places before the raids? I'm saving this list of party spots for next month when things cool down.

Update on this: it's confirmed that it is in fact temporary.
Those businesses which had shisha operations closed this week are being obliged to apply for a license. Getting one depends on them proving that no kids are on the premises, no illicit substances etc. This seems a good move to me: it kills the dodgy khmer places that were the original target for these operations, while letting the legitimate businesses stay open.
First licenses are expected to be issued this week.

Some bureaucratic twat sees a way to skim money and you think it a good thing.
There will be no monitoring to ensure anything happens or doesn't happen. And if they did find x something untoward that would of course be solved by a bribe.

I couldn't give a fuck, frankly. All I'm interested in is my favourite little place reopening, and that seems to be happening - irrespective of whether it's through fair means or foul.

I was in Harem in PP a few weeks ago and about half the people in there were female, also most the people who smoke them in SHV that I know are girls. As it is flavored it's really not like smoking cigarettes.Lucky Lucan wrote:So it's just another clamp-down on students skipping school. I wonder if many girls have been smoking these evil "Shisha" hookah pipes? That would be unusual, it's very rare to see any females in Cambodia smoking tobacco.

Agree, JR, but think how easy it is for them to open. Here you open a place, buy the sign and pay around 10,000 riel, and away you go.Just Robbed wrote:There will be no monitoring to ensure anything happens or doesn't happen. The west is way more corrupt, zoning licences, health dept, labour dept, immigration dept, and then the fear of the health inspectors dropping in and closing you for one fly...
Even if they pay $1000 for the licence, they're still getting off cheaply, as there is no personal taxation, it's completely ad hoc, and sometimes you lose, but generally, people win, otherwise they wouldn't bother to open...

Why not install these "Shisha" hookah pipes at school? "Higher" (LOL) attendance.
The Earth is degenerating these days. Bribery and corruption abound.

a shisha is in average $8...
sure, a few ppl can share one, but then it doesnt take long until its finished...
im unsure, that this is the locals fav passtime...
its a thing of the tobacco tycoons here, trust me...
their business is going away...
if all those kids that allegedly pull on a shisha ocassionally, would hang on packages of fags instead, then nobody would say a beep...

FFS potty, would you shut up about the tobacco tycoons.
This has NOTHING to do with it. The reasons for the temporary purge have been explained endlessly here and the fact that they will be reopened shortly suggest that you are talking shite, as always.
i cant read back 9 pages of b.s.
the reasons i read are...
- noise ?
- drugs ?
ahahaha...
why then should they be reopened ?
and why to ban e-cigarettes ? really not the bestseller in cambodia...
