On further investigation, the whole thing is getting whole-hearted approval in my neighborhood. Talking to one neighbor about it, he stood there arms crossed, eying the now shuttered place, nodding with a look of 'its about time' satisfaction on his face.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

As mentioned earlier, the locals have long rumored that it was a drug den and place of other youthful improprieties.potty wrote:too bad you didnt ask him why he was so happy about it ?LTO wrote:On further investigation, the whole thing is getting whole-hearted approval in my neighborhood. Some unmarked building on 136 was raided today and the cops took out like 200 kids that should have been in school. They used busses to ship them off for reeducation.

I think that might be the gist of this whole thing. It's just the 2014 version of the ban and raids on computer game places a decade ago and the crackdown on discos/clubs catering to high school students in the afternoons a couple years ago - a mix of concern over truancy and dangerous behaviors and fear of youth being seduced into 'bad things' by non-traditional influences.Felgerkarb wrote:Some unmarked building on 136 was raided today and the cops took out like 200 kids that should have been in school. Spot on LTO, around Daun Penh are streets that are dens of iniquity. My street 118 has so many KTVs and the sisha bar Other streets have shops with gambling machines and lots of nasty looking young bastards hang around there.

I think i was wrong. This looks pervasive and permanent. Many of the places that have been raided have had their pipes confiscated and that hardly suggests this is something that is is going to go away after a few days noise: I can't see the police quietly restoring the pipes to the bars.
The sad thing is that great little cafes like the one on 51 which had these as well as the kebabs etc will go out of business.
I must admit this is a big deal for me. I'm not interested in the bar culture - the idea of sitting in a dark and dingy bar staring at half drunk bottles of cheap bourbon while some skank tries to engage me in reluctant and inane small talk lost its appeal many years ago. A shisha on the street - supplemented by a couple of beers - was a way to relax and watch the world go by. WIth that gone, I'm left with the wonderful option of evenings watching Law and Order reruns for the 15th fucking time.

I've been wrong once before in my life too. Strange feeling, huh?scobienz wrote:I think i was wrong. This looks pervasive and permanent.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
