An Australian English teacher is being held by police after he was arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing at least three boys aged between 5 and 11 years old.
Keo Thea, director of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department, confirmed yesterday that the suspect, whom he did not name, was being held in police custody.
“Our police are still working on this case,” he said.
The suspect was reportedly arrested on Sunday morning while leaving his Phnom Penh apartment with two boys.
The alleged victims told police in subsequent interviews that the abuse had taken place.
The years-long investigation uncovered complicity of the boys’ families, whom Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE) said received money from the suspect.
APLE said the man taught in a private school.
Police also discovered a laptop, two external hard drives, about 20 memory cards and three USB sticks in the suspect’s apartment, which were all seized by police as possible evidence. Children’s toys and clothes were also found there, police said.

And who was the subject of The years-long investigation.
Was it the Australian or the family of the boys?

im not sure, in case there is some evidence, that children are abused, that an organization can keep quiet.
might work for cases involving only adult criminals, but not really if children are subject to an ongoing sexual abuse.

What's weird about that? APLE target nonces the same as the DEA target druggies. If I went to a western teacher's house and he was there with two kids who weren't his own and a load of toys scattered around, alarm bells would be ringing.Joon wrote:Also note the headline that says "Australian targeted in abuse case".
Weird.
No longer working at the S.D Holiday Hotel...
What is weird is that the PPPost seems to be tip-toeing here, because it doesn't name the suspect (while it did in the past) and it says "targeted" as if the Australian was unreasonably suspected.BURLESQUE@SDHHOTEL wrote:What's weird about that? Weird.
Also, the headline only says "abuse" and not "child abuse" which seems to try to downplay this case.

Maybe there's an ongoing investigation. Apparently this has taken years, which seems like a long time even by cambodian standards. APLE didn't put out a press release either. I'm guessing there will be a few more pervs connected who'll be rounded up soon and then the Post will print a more robust article.
Yeah my first reaction was to check APLE website.
But your suggestion that they may be targeting a larger ring would explain that they keep his name out so his associates wouldn't flee or become extra cautious.
Though it's fair to assume that other potential suspects heard about his arrest.

His balls would be ringing after I finished kicking the shit out of him.BURLESQUE@SDHHOTEL wrote:What's weird about that? APLE target nonces the same as the DEA target druggies. i thought now, the unusual careful wording + the non-naming of the suspect could be because
- he immediately got a good lawyer, who took care of this
- there is nothing more than the words of parents/children against him.

You might think this is racial stereotyping, but Khmer pedos usually prefer young girls.logos wrote:Could he be an ethnic cambodian with an ozzie passport ?

Yes, oddly restrained article. I wonder what's up.
Could be an overseas Khmer, but the Post and the Daily usually reserve the word 'pedo' for whites (and the occasional Japanese) exclusively. The again, Khmer ethnicity with western citizenship may have left them confused how to label him.
