Kampot: Kamchay Hydropower Dam opens gates, floods Kampot
Kampot: Kamchay Hydropower Dam opens gates, floods Kampot

Due to heavy rainfalls, the Kamchay hydropower dam couldn't contain rising water levels and the operator informed local authorities they had to open the floodgates to manage the water volume.
But local authorities were little prepared to inform local residents and communities and to evacuate the people.
Fortunately there hasn't been any human casualties as far as we know now, but the material damages are expected to be serious in terms of loss of crops, fields, livestock and accommodation.

Idiots, as I posted in another thread. They knew heavy rains were forecasted so why didn't they start releasing water earlier. Oh, and most of those whose land was affected did NOT receive any warning.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
It also sounds to me that the dam operator didn't do a proper assessment of its water levels and of the storm and rainfalls forecast.
Also there's an update on the affected communities and crop loss: http://kohsantepheapdaily.com.kh/article/129267.html
1517 families affected and 259 hectares of farmlands damaged.

I was there about 4 yrs ago when they did the same thing and flooded the town,
Umm, Err, ???
There is a big storm cell headed our way.
Should we let some water out now or wait until we have enough water to flood the city.
They fail to learn from past failures.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Horrible for all the locals involved. I can only imagine what damage it has done to low lying villages outside of town.

It rains here, a lot. Why wasn't the dam planned better to deal with the rains...oh ya, that's right....money. Easier to drown people than to make a dam that can handle the rainfall here.
Wait until it's Diamond Island disappearing in a tsunami released by a bigger dam(n)...

That's some serious amount of water. Hope damages will remain manageable.

PLAN = 4 letter word.
M-rons.
M-rons.
Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
