No chance in hell. The peasants barely get shit if some freshie son of a functionary runs over their children.andyinasia wrote:A doubly unfortunate aspect here is that a lot of locals were making reasonable livelihoods from tourism before the dam drowned a tourist spot, forcing many to return to farming. Now their livelihoods have been ruined over again. I hope those farmers are duly compensated.

Of course I am not being sarcastic about Koh Pich, we know who owns it. Not too many poor Khmer farmers there. Some will remember when all it had was a fishing village, it may revert to that in a generation or so.

I was referring to your comment that the Chinese do a good job with construction.ken svay wrote:Of course I am not being sarcastic about Koh Pich, we know who owns it. FYI. The Sam Rainsy Party have been sending out aid packages for many of the flood victims here in Kampot. I witnessed it yesterday. I would assume the leading party are doing the same.

It had a load of farms on it until it was evicted in 2005. It's described as Phnom Penh's vegetable garden in the link below.ken svay wrote:Of course I am not being sarcastic about Koh Pich, we know who owns it. Not too many poor Khmer farmers there. Why would HE bother? If the Rainsy party improves in the polls the CPP will just arrest more on treason charges until it cancels out.krisduncs wrote:FYI. Traditionally, the CPP has usually been fairly proactive in getting 'aid packages' to disaster affected people here, if not under their own name, then as the CRC, and making something of a show of it. (The actual value and usefulness of the 'aid packages' being another issue.) The SRP (or more likely the CNRP) may even be taking a page out of the the CPP playbook by providing what should be government funded services under the party name rather than as government or NGO disaster relief. Not that there is anything illegal about that (I don't think), and it is good politics, as well as maybe even being helpful.penisjokeforaname wrote:Why would HE bother? As for the police and courts stitching people up (Rainsy in the case) in service of some other end, well, it's not like that method of getting things done doesn't have its share of western supporters.
