It's a great shot. Very enigmatic etc.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

This looks like a monumental fuck up. They're lucky they didn't kill a bunch of people, especially tourists (from an economic point of view).

would you buy/rent a place in a flood zone? Probably really cheap sales prices/rent. I expect plenty of places for sale/rent in the recent future.

Almost everywhere in the country can be a flood zone.

My thinking exactly. What happens when we have a wet year...

God bless the Chinese!
Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
Stupid fucking bastards, just like last time but didn't they deny that the dam was responsible last time? The Chinese sure do a good job with the construction, let's hope Koh Pich is next.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Remember the Sichuan earthquake?ken svay wrote:Stupid fucking bastards, just like last time but didn't they deny that the dam was responsible last time? The Chinese sure do a good job with the construction, let's hope Koh Pich is next.
In this particular instance, I guess that opening the flood gates was a lesser evil than taking chances and hoping the dam wall would stand.
Still. Bad planning and risk prevention, especially since a similar issue happened a few years ago.

Land, what land? I see only water. The CPP will now seize this area of water and no one can complain because land wasn't seized, right?

"“We announced that we would open the sluice gates,” he said. “Would we not think before doing something?”" Clearly lots of thinking happened.penisjokeforaname wrote:https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/hund ... ned-94476/

A doubly unfortunate aspect here is that a lot of locals were making reasonable livelihoods from tourism before the dam drowned a tourist spot, forcing many to return to farming. Now their livelihoods have been ruined over again. I hope those farmers are duly compensated.
I came, I argued, I'm out
