RIP
The dump and run stinks of guilt to me, any cop with any instincts whatsoever would be interested in chatting to these guys.
When it's my turn, bbq me at the pagoda and get my ashes to Chobe, Botswana, please.

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
"I tolerate vegetarians, but I will not speak to vegans." RIP Tanja.
Did she have the place in Sen Monorom down the slippery track and she had several dogs? I went there with a gang of kids and the missus many years ago. Christ it was cold and rainy up there and the depleted forests heartbreaking. We did find a few elephants in the mist though.

Yeah, that was the place.
"Bananas!" was its name.
Great food, and she loved to talk. Two Bulldogs wandering around slobbering and begging for food. Nice place. I believe she sold it to the moonies.

Yeah, I think the place was called Bananas. I got sat next to her on a bus to sen monorom a while back, she could surely talk, but had some interesting stories. She was a great cook too! Fillet pork at it's best! She was a resilient character. RIP.

Looks like she just started working at 'Stockholm Restaurant' on st.288 according to her other Facebook profile which seems more current than the one mentioned earlier.

The Facebook page for that place seems pretty new, apparently a pair of chess playing enthusiasts out of Sweden are running it, they must be baffled to lose their cook after such a short time.

I have just read on facebook that Tanja, former owner of the backpacker guesthouse MASH/Melting Pot and bar on Victory Hill in Sihanoukville, has passed away.
Tanja was a real character, typical of the expats that inhabited Sihanoukville in the late 1990's and early 2000's.
She opened a guesthouse early on in Kep (around 2004/5 from memory) well before Kep was popular. She worked on the islands for a while and lately was cook at Papagyo in SHV.
When I had drinks in SHV for KIR after his death she was the only one who showed up.
I do not know the cause of death, but the source is rock solid.
I really liked her, she was one of the old guard, hard drinking and living life to the full.
She told me she fell in love with Cambodia as a kid when she heard about the place and researched it and always wanted to live here. She lived her dream.
Rest in Peace Tanja.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

The photo I posted of her was from the Kep guesthouse, right around the time it was opening. Time stamp says 2003.LaudJohn wrote:She opened a guesthouse early on in Kep (around 2004/5 from memory) well before Kep was popular. RIP Tanja / penguin-t. She was wacky but fun and friendly for sure. Seemed she lived the life she wanted to so good on her for that. We're all dust in the end.
I have been reading the comments about Tanja with great interest. I witnessed a very different and quite frightening side to her personality, while living in SHV in 2004. I don't believe in speaking ill of the dead and was disgusted by the comments made about KIR after his demise, so it's better to keep things positive. RIP.
