Totally agree with gavinmac. It seems to me it's an easy line for a wanted fugitive with a conviction for assault and kidnapping and with various spells in prison and his dimwitted kiwi sidekick to say 'no, we didn't break in just to beat the guy up and steal his camera; instead we were meting out street justice.' That's way too convenient and slurs the guy who left the country in a hurry.
The victim was beaten up at least a week or two before Eglitis and Hastie were arrested. He reported the assault immediately, and it took the cops a week or so to find the thugs. Nothing in his actions in reporting the assault suggest he is guilty of something nefarious or deserved the attack.
On the contrary. Everything about Eglitis's background shows that he is a nasty piece of work and while some on here might tip their hats at yet another good bloke, it seems odd to me that Hastie's FB went down when he was banged up (it's up again now, btw, although he seems to have totally ignored the numerous messages of goodwill from his friends around the world when he was in trouble) and that an initial fund raising attempt by friends back home was suddenly suspended.

If the victim was [edited by Admin] I would think he would have left the country instead of going to the authorities regarding the assault and theft.
Seems like a bullshit excuse by the perpetrators and I'm a bit disappointed that some posters here would believe that without any evidence whatsoever.

I have edited my post, as I displayed a poor lack of judgement in repeating a rumour, which could possibly damage the reputation of the person in question.
May I ask the admin to please delete any reference to the rumour that I repeated on K440. If there was sufficient evidence to back up the rumour then that would be a different story, however as I said, it was 2nd hand information only.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

So any developments in the Dave Walker murder?
Or have the police closed the case?
Read something about DW investigating an NGO scam up in SR which may have led to him being bumped off. About setting up tourists for sex crimes and getting them to pay 30k or so for charges to be dropped. Course that could be hogwash.

I don't think you read anything like that. Murderous child protection NGOs operating in Cambodia would be a new one.Just Robbed wrote: Read something about DW investigating an NGO scam up in SR which may have led to him being bumped off. You seem to have a paranoia about NGOs generally.
Just Robbed wrote: Re APLE - a former Cambodian colleague said to me a few years ago that a friend of his used to work there and he claimed that they had done some terrible things. I could imagine what that meant. Not saying that they don't get the right one sometimes. However, having read that Somaly Mam expose and hearing other things over the years I suspect that they could engage in some dubious practices using underage girls.
Just Robbed wrote:So if Aple are found to have interfered with the rule of law and set this guy up should they be allowed to continue to operate?
Surely the justice system should look into those cases where perps claim to have been set up by Aple?
But that probably won't happen.
Just Robbed wrote:Regardless of what people may think of Fletcher it appears that medical evidence proves him innocent of the crime he was convicted of.
Why is he a still in prison?
Isn't an appeal court able to throw cases out and release the innocent?
Or maybe Aple's lawyer and the judge missed that lesson in law school?
Just Robbed wrote:I suppose for some there will of course be a silver lining if hundreds of thousands of women are laid off as garment workers. I foresee an explosion in prostitution. Which means all the NGOS get to stay here for another couple of decades! Hurrah for the gravy train. Prolly why the NGOS are so supportive of Rainsy...
Just Robbed wrote:Is it a case of NGO CDs being intellectually superior to the average 440 poster? Or is it more a case of NGO CDs have attended so many training courses on how to evade straight answers, (probably the same ones that politicians go on), that they'd just wriggle their way out of any questioning?
Just Robbed wrote:I've also heard that the alleged NGO run guest house isn't actually operated by an NGO and none if the profits go to charity. Short story is that the owner works for an NGO and cynically knowing how whitey loves a good sob story decided to market the restaurant as being affiliated with an NGO.
So all those folks thinking they're giving lepers a hand or whatever are actually paying over the odds to a shady business owner.
Just Robbed wrote:There are only 2 reasons why the cops would arrest more barangs for drugs -
(i) they are encroaching on their turf i.e. drug dealing cops revenue is being hit OR
(ii) there's NGO money somewhere which pays commission on results for drug busts and they look for easy, non cop related, drug dealing targets.

Gavinmac where do you find the time or interest to do this?
Paranoia about ngos? No - I write mostly about what others comment on whether you choose to believe that or think I'm making it up. These have been comments made either in person or written in internet sites. The comment about the guest house in Kampong Cham being a scam was made by a Khmer person living there who should know. The comment about Aple was made by a former Khmer colleague who's Khmer friend used to work there. So not the ravings of a deluded Whitey but nice try. Now you can go back to doing whatever it is that you do when not searching through k440..Whatever that is.

Haha, this is how Donald Trump talks too. "A lot of people are saying something is going on with these NGOs. A lot of people think these NGO directors are murderers and criminals. I'm not saying that, but many people have told me that."
Just post a link to wherever you supposedly read that Dave Walker was murdered by NGOs for investigating NGOs that were framing tourists for sex crimes. Easy.

Luckily I'm not running for office as I'm sure I'd be much worse than Don.
Normally I would say that as you are the master of the golden Google that you should go and find it yourself. However, seeing as it's Pchum Ben and I'm in a holiday mood just this once I shall even explain how I found the link. It goes like this...
I read that refreshed post about the White Pearl Club and saw it looked like a load of old nonsense however I decided to see what other stuff Details Are Sketchy posted and found it was no more. So I googled White Pearl Club as never heard of this place before. That brought up the K440 post and other rubbish. I noticed the search term should have been Club White Pearl and that brought more rubbish. But in there under Cambodian nightlife was an odd site, which some may enjoy, Wowasis travel blog, full of weird stuff including some book reviews which led me to books I'd not read some of which I may look up but I digress.
In there you will find the reference to the Dave Walker murder being connected to ngos and cops.

I think I will keep trusting gavinmac's info over your's. I'm not convinced that the "WoWasis TravelBlog, The sharper edge to traveling in Asia" is a reliable source. And I have absolutely no doubt that Fletcher is a pedophile who had sex with multiple minors in Cambodia. He should be surgically castrated, at the least, imho.Just Robbed wrote:Luckily I'm not running for office as I'm sure I'd be much worse than Don.

Something like Wowais may be a dubious source, and the story is weak and a bit wild, (like the 'Khmer Rouge killed Walker' theory/story.) but Gavin did not accuse Just Robbed of using a poor source. GM accused him of being a liar, and I don't see any justification for that, even in GM's cherry picked collection of contextless JR quotes. Maybe I have missed something but I don't recall any history of JR lying.
