Two sisters are now coming over from the UK and arriving tonight. I feel for them and the rest of his UK and Cambodian family, and of course all his friends around the world.
Incidentally "Chay Hok (?: ឆាយហុក) guesthouse" quoted earlier was the old name of Charlie Harpers and there's still a rusty sign up near the entrance.

Yes. The embassy rep in SHV has organised a taxi and a 440 member has organised accommodation.violet wrote:has anyone made arrangements to collect them/put them up etc?YaTingPom wrote:Two sisters are now coming over from the UK and arriving tonight. Great tribute to Tony that, some 440 members on there including yours truly.Tony was an institution and he will be sorely missed. Bugger.
Sad so sad. Meet him once.RIP bro.
I know that road well, used to go to a beach shack for quiet times before they cleared them out.
The owner always told me to ride home before dark, apparently it was not safe. Bad people waiting on the road.
One time .after dark and against my wish, the husband rode with me on his moto as security. Not because I was drunk, but 2 motos better than alone. Every other time I would ride like a bat out of hell to avoid danger.

Didn't know the guy.But I remember something about 10 years ago where the scumbags put small bamboo poles in the sharp curves behind Sokia Hotel at night and then when a moto went down they would rob them before they could get up.Just a thought.RIP.

RIP to Tony, and condolences to the family.
I didn't know him, but I do have to say that it is refreshing to see so many kind words written about him. Oftentimes these threads go in another direction, so it is reassuring to see the support of the expat community when they lose one of the good guys. And special props to those who are helping the family out.
He sounds like the type of guy who would have wanted everyone that knew him to raise a glass and toast to his life. Some good stories have been shared about him, and I am sure that his family will appreciate that he was well regarded and lived a good life here.
So, RIP Tony, and cheers to the many good years in the Kingdom.

Let's not speculate and start the rumourmill eh. If you "heard from someone" keep it to yourself. I was there after the event and Tony was a friend and part of my Cambodian family.
Tony died. That's it.
Whatever really happened we will never know.
Let's just keep this thread about Tony.
Thank you.
(My post wasn't in respect to your post mugileto. (Sorry if I spelt your name wrong))

For every expat death, there's a murder conspiracy theory.YaTingPom wrote:Let's not speculate and start the rumourmill eh. If you "heard from someone" keep it to yourself. I was there after the event and Tony was a friend and part of my Cambodian family.

Suzuki Step is a dangerous little bike, the rear brakes seldom work well on older models, so one is stuck with the front disc, which will make you slide and fall easy if braking on any sort of gravel or rain slick road. Driving much more than 40kmh, especially at night, and drunk without a helmet is not advisable whatsoever imho. I hope this incident will serve a warning to anyone else sharing the same sort of 'living on the edge' lifestyle as this our poor victim.
May he rest in peace.
