Have there been any developments concerning Michael Dredge? The Internet is very silent on this matter. I cannot find anything from his employer-The Salvation Army nor notices from his family or friends. The media is noticeably silent on this subject.
This seems strange.
I am not easily persuaded by the proposed explanations of 'natural causes' or 'suicide'
Was the corpse repatriated? Surely a post mortem would have determined death?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

The real cause of death is and never will be established in Cambodia.
End of story.
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

Unfortunately, there will probably not be a supply of information or explanation that you are hoping for.
Postmortems, autopsies...they do not happen in Cambodia. (The assumption that this 'must happen' is reasonable for those from western countries, and even in many developing countries. But this is not the case in Cambodia.)
See below for recent remarks on this:
scobienz wrote:This is a country with no forensic services, no meaningful autopsies and - candidly - little concern from the authorities about getting to the root causes of the 150-200 foreigners who die here every year.
gavinmac wrote:This is par for the course, there are no autopsies in Cambodia. Deaths of Westerners are just chalked up to heart attack or overdose.
I hope this information is in some way useful. (It is *not* intended to dissuade you from searching for information or anything like that; but as some general, background information.)Rama wrote:“There are no forensic pathologists in Cambodia”
https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/dear ... -3-112581/
(Quote from newspaper: "The need to introduce standardized forensic medicine—a discipline that includes autopsies— was first discussed in 2001, when government, medical and legal officials gathered in the capital for the the country’s first-ever conference on the topic. The event ended in formal recommendations for the establishment of a coroner’s office and a university-based forensic medical program.
But 15 years later, neither of these exists.")
Generally , when a foreigner dies in Cambodia , and identification is made , the relevant embassy is notified , who in turn contact the family of the deceased, to advise them , and to ascertain if they want to repatriate the body .
Given the advanced state of decomposition , and the cost of repatriation , the most logical decision would have been to have the body buried or cremated locally , which , in this case , is more than likely what happened .

Reading all comments by everyone. I'm disgusted by all of them except for micheals sister. I know Michael through all the work he did in Dublin. He helped the homeless and people in addiction. Yes I first met him in the Dublin Simon detox program where he was the manager. He had a heart of gold and he was a great father figure in my life. Like his family I'm heart broken as I lost a great friend, a father figure and my number one supporter. See you later when I cross over the rainbow . Never judge anyone that you dont know.
