Giant, one of the biggest players of the retail industry in Malaysia, will open its first Cambodian outlet in Phnom Penh’s City Mall and is planning a second outlet in the Parkson shopping mall currently under construction, according to a source involved in the project.
The hypermarket chain, which operates over 145 stores in Malaysia and has a presence in six other countries, will establish its City Mall store in the space formerly occupied by Lucky Supermarket.
However, the new outlet, expected to be one of the chain’s smaller supermarkets, should not be seen as a competitor to the Lucky chain, the source said.

This could be great news...or a complete cluster-fuck! How can it "not be seen as a competitor to the Lucky chain?" Lucky needs some strong, reasonably priced competition. Could also be a shot in the arm for Shitty Mall. What a dump that's become.

Yeah, right.
How is a new face in the same line NOT a competitor.
Something smells tinned fishy...

You guys cannot read? Both chains are owned/operated by same company in Cambodia. So technically they are not competing against each other. But agreed, Cambodia would need some big grocery store chain to compete with Lucky.

It is a fucking dump, falling to bits. I only ever go to the cinema there. They have this insane nightclub in the basement of the carpark where it's hard to breath because of all the fumes from twats revving up their MSXs outside. Fuck knows what it's like inside.chkwoot wrote:This could be great news...or a complete cluster-fuck! How can it "not be seen as a competitor to the Lucky chain?" Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I went into Lucky s/market at Takhmau today,,, saw the pork hotdogs were marked down from $6 to half price ,,, $3.
When I went through the checkout, the scanner would not display the price so the girl at c/out types it in manually,,,
at .30 c. ,,, I am not one to complain about prices I pay.

Yes Duncan and if Lucky finance dept check properly and find that cashier make mistake, the mistake of $1.70 will be taken out of cashier salary.
Please reconsider your actions next time

CW i am not sure how you would know how i would react in a situation like this.
Just because you might take a certain path don't expect that i would follow the same.
My initial comment was to advise readers that some businesses in Cambodia will penalise a cashier if they make a mistake and dont charge or charge less then correct amount. Some readers may not know this. What readers do with this information is up to them

And who do these ever so careful employers give the money to if the cashier overcharges a customer? Rather than bitching about individuals taking advantage of a favourable situation you might want to try addressing the institutional problems here.
And back in the real world which store anywhere has the time and inclination to reconcile every single stock movement with every single register transaction?

WJF not sure how my comment can be judged as bitchy.. but if you say so....
"My initial comment was to advise readers that some businesses in Cambodia will penalise a cashier if they make a mistake and dont charge or charge less then correct amount. Some readers may not know this. What readers do with this information is up to the them"
just asking people to take this into consideration
I also was not suggesting every transaction is checked, but if a mistake of this type is found it could be the company policy that the cashier has mistake deducted from salary. A similar scenario which might be easier to understand, is if a cashier gives too much change, their float will be down at the end of the shift. Depending upon company policy this may be deducted from Salary. As I said already, it is up to the individual what they do if they know there is a problem.
Same applies if overcharged. Everyone is free to make their own decision on what to do.
