What Is Death

Today in my normal ignorance I save a fly.
Fell in my beer jug after I wafted my hand.
Thought what do I do?

Decided to gently pick it out with chopsticks.
Put it on the table in a minute puddle of beer.
Thought maybe it get drunk.
Watched it as it tried to dry.
Thought I know I'll heat it up with a cigarette.

Put it close but not as trying,
To set ants on fire with a magnifying glass,
As a child, that I now confess to.

It seemed to wander as half drowned,
And was clever enough not to fall off the table.
I followed it with the heat, and eventually it flew off.

I felt gratified I had not killed it.
Then moments later a small Gheko
Bounced on and off heart.
I think there is something missing here.
No god, no religion, just acceptance,
That life is permanently impermanent.

Paul was from Nottingham in England and used to work next door to that tela station at IEL primary school before leaving about a year ago to do private tutoring. If drinking beer , smoking ciggies and talking rubbish were olympic sports Paul would have represented team GB with pride. When sober or half pissed he was a good bloke to talk to over a beer and he was well liked by most of his students. When totally pissed he could be hard work like a lot of people can be. Paul leaves behind a $60 bar bill at cozy bar on 136 that he intentionally ran up knowing he had 2 bucks in his pocket. He pulled a stunt like that on me a few times ,calls me up and invites me out for beers, 2 hours into drinking and oh by the way mate im skint so i will pay you back next time. He always did pay me back thou, RIP Paul you cheeky monkey.
