Train hits cement truck
Amazing really how many accidents there have been already, considering the trains run at around 25 kph and they are hard to miss:

Think I'll give rail travel a pass for a couple of years until the brainless truckers and motorists wake up.

We operate with the 'might is right' rule. They've been the biggest on the road for a long time & just need a little bit of time to realise that trains won't stop for them.
They'll get there eventually...

Royal Railways are demanding $600k compensation from the trucking company. While I agree that the truck driver was most likely at fault, Royal Railways should have been responsible for implementing safety measures to help minimise the risk of accidents by installing warning lights and barrier-arms at all crossings. I crossed the tracks in a tuk-tuk in Kampot recently, the driver didn't even slow down or appear to look to see if there were any trains coming, when I mentioned this to him his reply was that he "knows what time the trains come and he will know if train coming because loud noise"...on the return I was poised ready to jump out of the tuk-tuk as we approached the crossing.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

WTF is going on? These are insane statistics for one track a few hundred kilometers long. I was expecting a train crash with another train. Not all these seemingly Kamikaze drivers throwing themselves in front of the train. I thought they had freight trains running for quite a while already anyway. There was that chap in Kampot who got his arms and legs cut off sleeping on the track over a year ago. Why the sudden increase?

Not *all* crossings in Europe and North America have lights and barrier-arms...PSD_Kiwi wrote:Royal Railways should have been responsible for implementing safety measures to help minimise the risk of accidents by installing warning lights and barrier-arms at all crossings.
(Still, it doesn't much effort for a tuk tuk or moto driver to have a glance 'just in case' a train is trundling along. Oh yeah, and truckers.)

Plus, of course, it's that trains cannot stop in a very short distance. Motorists have been caught out by that of late - and as PSD Kiwi suggested - motorists thinking 'there won't be a train passing by, it'll be fine' ...CRUNCH...Khmerhamster wrote:We operate with the 'might is right' rule. Back on topic, maybe the driver was a Jethro Tull fan?

Surely it would be cheaper to hire attendants at each level crossing than sustain this level of accidents and repair bills?
