'Political Analyst' Dr Kem Ley Shot Dead in Star Mart
Besides that slander, Phnom Penh city hall (on a Sunday) also accepted and approved a request for a same day (i.e. request made today for a demonstration today) demo led by Srey Chamroeun to demonstrate against Sam Rainsy's proposal for the EU to implement a trade embargo. https://m.facebook.com/Srey-Chamroeun-1 ... id&refid=0

Pro CNRP Nokor Thom newspaper (my newspaper man's biggest seller) headline today is
'Two Million People Join Kem Ley Funeral Procession to his Hometown'
(And on the left they've run with 'Kem Sokha Promises to Lead by Kem Ley Ideas'
Slightly Pro CPP report the funeral procession numbers to be 'Hundreds of Thousands'
I'd imagine the consensus regarding the turnout amongst the everyman will be around about a million.

Does anyone know why Kem Ley was buried and not cremated?

The funeral committee’s original plans were to transfer the body to a wooden coffin and bury it in a cement-lined grave in the backyard this morning. Last night, relatives said the burial might be delayed, though others on the committee said it would go ahead as planned.

Those that embrace Chinese heritage are buried, like my father-in-law. Those that embrace Khmer are cremated, my mother-in-law (when the time comes).

Of course, we all know that the writers and publishers of dap news are as pure as the driven snow and have never strayed from the straight and narrow.Felgerkarb wrote:Two more wives and three more kids in Takeo province.
Publishing that kind of news, however true, on the day of the burial says something about the publisher's lack of breeding.
Non-sarcastic question: how many of Kem Ley's supporters and admirers will now have a lower opinion of him as a man and a courageous commentator/analyst if they believe this article to be accurate?

Also a non-rhetorical question: How many former CNRP supporters now hold a lower opinion of Sokha due to his supposed immoral behavior? Were those now against him really always against him?Cambodian wrote:...Non-sarcastic question: how many of Kem Ley's supporters and admirers will now have a lower opinion of him as a man and a courageous commentator/analyst if they believe this article to be accurate?
It was in reality, of course, less than a fifth of that number. At Rainsy's return, people were also saying '2 million' when it was likely a fraction of that. It seemed to fade fast though, and nobody really talked about the number later. Just that there were a lot of people. But this time I have noticed in a couple of places people who I am sure know better saying, "it wasn't thousands, it wasn't tens of thousands, it was A MILLION," more like they were correcting a political refrain rather than debating about the actual number. It would seem that some are working to make this "the million man march"* even if there really was 100,000 and they know it.Rama wrote:I'd imagine the consensus regarding the turnout amongst the everyman will be around about a million.
* Or whatever gender inclusive tern they use these days.
More importantly, can he be charged posthumously with solicitation, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation, and his widow(s) with prostitution?Cambodian wrote: Non-sarcastic question: how many of Kem Ley's supporters and admirers will now have a lower opinion of him as a man and a courageous commentator/analyst if they believe this article to be accurate?

In the KOW, anything is possible. I think you forgot a posthumous charge of adultery.epidemiks wrote:More importantly, can he be charged posthumously with solicitation, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation, and his widow(s) with prostitution?
Let's also throw in a defamation charge against the widow for saying that she fears for her safety and for considering political asylum in another country. How dare she?

Government spokespeople are now saying the number of people who joined the funeral procession was in the 'hundreds'. That's as ridiculous as saying there were 2 million.
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.
Could it not be that the 'two million participants' figure by opposition outlets and the Kem Ley funeral organising committee is a 'calculated' calculation.
The votes country wide for CNRP in 2013 was 2,946,176. The population of Phnom Penh is roughly 2,000,000 in itself.
The funeral procession was a show of mourning and respect for Kem Ley, but it was also a demonstration against HE. Allowing people to speculate that two million people turned out for it in Phnom Penh and along the road to Takeo is a forewarning to HE and inspirational to voters across the country that numbers could be in the people's favour.

So what now? All back to normal, with attention shifted back to Kem Sokha's continued retreat to his bolthole?
