I didn't know that Rohypnol was traditional Khmer medicine.Traditional Healer Prescribed Rape as a Cure
Police arrested a traditional healer on Saturday in Kampong Speu province’s Oral district after receiving a complaint from the victim’s parents, who accused the suspect of rape, according to district police yesterday.
Deputy district police chief Om Yuthong said 37-year-old Khit Neang was arrested after a patient’s parents filed a complaint, saying he had detained their daughter for a week for sex.
“He is a traditional doctor. He was arrested yesterday [Saturday]. We received a complaint from the parents of the victim, who said he took the victim for treatment at Kulen mountain, but he actually brought her to a guesthouse the whole time,” he said yesterday.
Mr. Yuthong explained that after the 23-year-old victim delivered her baby, she developed an unusual heartbeat and sought treatment from Mr. Neang, who told her that she had been magically cursed by her ex-husband.
He said that when the victim met the suspect, he insisted on bringing her to Pich Nil in Kampong Speu province and later Kulen mountain to expel any evil spirits from her, but he drugged her and brought her to guesthouses instead.
“One time, he brought her to Pich Nil to meet her parents, but first, he brought to her a guesthouse in Kampong Speu province and had sex with her about five times. She was ill and drugged after being brought to the guesthouse for sex,” he said.
The police chief said the victim’s dealings with the suspect started in mid-2015, but the most recent was when Mr. Neang said he was taking the woman to Kulen mountain, but instead brought her to a guesthouse in Kampong Cham’s Skun district to have sex for a week until July 26.
The suspect took the victim’s phone so she could not contact her family, the police chief explained. After being unable to contact their daughter, her parents filed a complaint with district police.
When asked why the victim did not tell her parents or file a complaint with police the first time she was taken for “treatment,” the police chief explained that she couldn’t always speak out and had inexplicable pain.
The suspect was sent to the provincial police station later on Saturday, Mr. Yuthong added.
