Frenchman Nicolas PLESSIS Dies from a lot of Meth in the Blood
I stand corrected, thanks LL.
What a terrible design for a test though: Lack of change indicates a positive result, and a weak band/line is considered the same as strong band/line. Obviously this isn't an issue for Nicolas (RIP) and likely represents the true situation, but test must be used purely for screening and not diagnosing.

It is strange, I would have expected a line to appear rather than disappear.DreadedDr wrote: What a terrible design for a test though..
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
After looking at the PDF, it doesn't even disappear it just never forms (based on very last picture). It's the common interpretation for all their drug tests, but perhaps this is the case for other brands of kits as well. I'm interested to know what the control is actually controlling for then, and why a negative result could have a faint or bright result; either you have it in your system or you don't (yes/no answer). I was under the impression that the police use the kits that turn blue when positive, so the science is there to directly test for these substances. Anyway I don't think there is an issue with the tests validity, just my knowledge. Time to procrastinate with some heavy reading.

This smells fishy to me. The guy's been in Asia for 10 years and working in hospitality for a multinational - he's no noob. Plus, I doubt he was actually staying at that run down looking place - surely he's got some connections in the industry here?prahocalypse now wrote: The article mentions a couple of other foreigners. Nguyen Fabien Khoaviel Daniel (sounds French-Vietnamese) and Philip Paul Saillard who were staying with the deceased. It sounds like they went out to dinner and came home at 9pm, but then the deceased went out again. Nguyen Fabien Khoaviel Daniel found the body at 8am in the morning.
Maybe the guys at Blue Chilli etc. know more about this...
Didn't Martin Hale die of a heart attack from morphine tablets?
I also was thinking that the rental home bedroom looked pretty shabby for someone who's been working for Novotel...Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote:This smells fishy to me. Can't be that bad, it's right beside La Croisette / Blue Pumpkin. The article appears to say a French girl was knocking at the door trying to get in - maybe it's her apartment? Or an airbnb?Joon wrote:I also was thinking that the rental home bedroom looked pretty shabby for someone who's been working for Novotel...Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote:This smells fishy to me. I was grounding my impression less on the location and more on the bedroom furniture that looked like typical lower middle class Khmer households' furniture or cheap guesthouses. But that might've been a airbnb rental, as you suggest.

Settle petal - he was an Accor employee granted; but it was the Novotel not the Sofitel.Joon wrote:I also was thinking that the rental home bedroom looked pretty shabby for someone who's been working for Novotel...Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote:This smells fishy to me. His escapades did have a whiff of Richard Quest about them.

Meth Overdose Death Rate
Because of rapid onset, death proceeds suddenly and unexpectedly after a meth OD. Many fatalities usually manifest symptoms of coma, shock, inability to pass and secrete urine, and muscle twitching. Emergency department visits due to meth overdose have been up to 130,000 per year, out of which almost 15% were fatalities.

I can't find the LD50 for methamphetamine but for pure amphetamine it's roughly between 15mg and 180mg per kg. For a 70 kg person that would be between 1050mg and 12600mg for a 50% lethal rate. Compared to the LD50 of morphine, which is 70mg per kg, the same person would need 4900mg to maybe (50%) to die from morphine.
I quickly searched for the cited numbers (130,000 and almost 15%) in the sources listed by the Addiction Blog link but could not find where those numbers came from. It is however widely known that meth use can cause fatal heart problems. You would probably die from a legitimate heart attack during use before you die from its toxicity, because like tuk-tukfish mentioned it isn't very toxic. Erowid lists 40-150mg doses of meth as "very strong (or with tolerance)", but even from 150mg is a giant leap to 1050-12600mg to have a 50% risk for a 70kg person to die of toxicity. Because I wasn't able to find the source for the information on Addiction Blog I wasn't able to find out if the "almost 15% fatalities" were because of toxicity of heart failure.
Bless

This damn thread has been the bane of my life for the past few weeks.
Shortly after it appeared I received an email from a guy called Jasper Waale, who it seems is 'Team Leader' at Holistic Data. This is what Holistic Data does, according to Mr Waale's LinkedIn profile:
Holistic data, is a solution taking best skills of team member's and match them with your need for Online profiling to add or retract information from the internet.

Mr Waale, contacted me saying that he was 'helping friends' and he wanted this thread deleted. He didn't explain why. I took a look at the thread and deleted a couple of childish comments about gay sex, but apart from that saw nothing wrong with it. It's pretty much a standard 'expat dies in Cambodia' story, the like of which appear online on forums, in print media etc all over the world. He complained about posters using M Plessis's LinkedIn picture, something which is relatively common practice these days. He called the entire story an invasion of privacy. I disagreed.
Since then, Waale has increased his campaign, peppering me with emails insisting the story be taken down. He has threatened legal action. When I asked him on what grounds, he declined to reply, saying he doesn't have to give me any information. Fair enough. No legal action has happened yet, and as far as I can see we havent broken any criminal laws, or done anything to attract a civil suit.
Most recently he has contacted our advertisers. None of them seem to care. Two weeks ago, he created a fake email account, pretending to be the MD of our biggest advertiser and left a lot of scurrilous posts on the front page, not realising of course that it needs Admin approval for new posts to be published there, as it does here on the forum.
He has complained to Linode, our host server, accusing us of copyright violation, and now he is telling me he is going to Google to report pages that he thinks violate Google standards. Fat chance of that succeeding, given Google bots are a constant presence here, regularly alerting me to tits and bums images that Playboy posted back in 2006. I wished him good luck with that venture.
For some bizarre reason he has even been hectoring gavinmac on Twitter. Perhaps he thinks GM is Admin. I dunno.
Waale describes himself as a 'freedom fighter and information liberator'. That seems quite at odds with his approach here, which seems to be designed to exert a lot of efforts to suppress information from the internet. He claims to be doing this as a favour. I don't believe him. I suspect he is being paid.
Either way, he can sit on it and swivel. Had he not tried to act like Billy BigBollocks and approached us politely we might have been more accommodating. As I said, I already edited a lot of the usual 440 excesses from the thread. However, his rather pathetic attempt to intimidate us simply isn't going to work.
BTW, I understand from Gonk that he is getting the same bollocks. I don't know whether the two posters on http://www.obsessedaboutrapeincambodia.com have got the same treatment. I suspect Waale doesn't know they exist.
My sincere condolences to the young French guy's parents - I'm sorry for your loss - but Waale simply has no authority, legal or moral, to attempt to suppress a bonafide news story from this or any other website when the facts of that story are undisputed.
Try again Jasper: it simply isn't going to happen.
