Another Unhappy Ending at a Massage Parlor

The owner and manager of a massage parlor in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district were arrested in a raid on Friday and charged yesterday for allegedly running a brothel inside their massage shop, according to police.


The two suspects were identified as 32-year-old Nuon Sokna, the owner of 72 Mom Massage Shop, and Bun Kim, the 22-year-old manager, according to Colonel Keo Thea, chief of the municipal anti-human trafficking unit.


“They were charged this afternoon by the prosecutor with aggravated procurement of prostitution under article 27 of the Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation,” he told Khmer Times yesterday.


“Their crimes are punishable with imprisonment from five to 10 years each if found guilty as accused.”


Major Phath Phalla, deputy chief of the anti-human trafficking unit who led his forces on a raid of the Russey Keo commune massage parlor, told Khmer Times yesterday that the suspects had been arrested on Friday.


“They allowed the masseuses to have sex with their clients which violates the law,” he said.


“They were arrested after our officers raided their shop and while some of the masseuses were having sex with their clients.”


He said that after their arrests, police caught 12 masseuses, five of whom were underage. Police also confiscated a number of used and unused condoms from their rooms.


He added that the 12 masseuses had been sent to a municipal rehabilitation center for education.
