Another day, another young expat dies in Phnom Penh. 34 year old US expat Jimmy Lorencillo has died in Calmette from alcohol related liver failure, after being admitted there on October 19th. He was 34 years old.
Many would have seen him around town; he was, I believe, a regular in Cadillac for a while. The former owner of Cadillac set up a gofundme account to raise money to get Jimmy home and raised a few thousand, but unfortunately he died before arrangements could be made.
RIP
That's the second alcohol related death of a young guy in the last two days. To date, there have been 137 recorded expat / tourist deaths in Cambodia this year.

Jimmy was a good man with his heart in the right place. He was indeed a regular at Cadillac. I believe the previous owner made the arrangements for him to come here around one and a half year ago, I understand they were best friends back home. His family and girlfriend were beside him when he passed away.
R.I.P. Jimmy, keep the Asahi cold for when we meet again on the other side.
Bless

Why make arrangements for an alcoholic or man with liver failure to move to PP?

I think arrangements were being made to get him out of Cambodia or as stated 'back home'.Durian Gray wrote:Why make arrangements for an alcoholic or man with liver failure to move to PP?

Never mind.
To live the healthy Cambodia lifestyle with low-fat food, hard physical work etc etc.Durian Gray wrote:Why make arrangements for an alcoholic or man with liver failure to move to PP?
Seriously, poor guy. RIP. Maybe, with hindsight, coming to Cambodia was not the greatest idea for him. so Durian Gray's question is kind of valid.

Understand DG's point and yours, but the fund raiser, as I read it, was not to get him over to Cambodia. If Jimmy already had liver/alcoholic problems back home maybe he wanted to spend his last time in Cambodia and not in his own country, who knows, it's entirely up to Jimmy.Kachang wrote:To live the healthy Cambodia lifestyle with low-fat food, hard physical work etc etc.Durian Gray wrote:Why make arrangements for an alcoholic or man with liver failure to move to PP?

His friend may have seen things deteriorating badly and thought it better to send him home.
Regardless, RIP.
Never mind.

I was responding to this.

You're mixing up two separate events. Jimmy came here to work with his friend. When Jimmy was hospitalized the same friend tried to raise funds to have him sent back home for better medical treatment. The fundraiser was to get him out, not in, but he did get in once...
He didn't have liver failure when he came to live here about a year and a half ago.
All marked for clarification below.

This, I imagine his best friend is not feeling too good at the moment, to suggest ' why did he get him over....' is not the most empathetic thing to post. Rest in peace, self explanatory.
