Phnom Penh: A foreign bar that exploited waitresses [who performed?] sexy dances for [sexual] thrills, provoking violations of Cambodian tradition/customs and in addition to that violated/took advantage of the public sidewalk, had [police] forces of khan Daun Penh come in to educate the owner at around 4:30pm of 30 November 2016.
The “barang” bar is called Candy Bar, located on house number 24-26Eo, street 136, Phum 4, sangkat Psa Kandal 1, khan Daun Penh.
Sources gave the information that the police had received information that the foreign bar exploited waitresses [doing] sexy dances for [sexual] thrill , provoking violations of Cambodian tradition/customs, [from] residents near the bar had complained to the authorities. [After receiving these complaints] on the evening of 30 November, the district forces cooperated with local police in order to counsel/instruct the owner that:
1) it is not permitted to have waitress in the bar dance in a provocative manner [or] accompany guests, as that violates khmer tradition/custom
2) [they] cannot take the pavement/sidewalk as it is a public street.
The authorities confirmed that if the owner does not follow the instructions, they will take measures without concern of loss of income, wealth or property/possessions.
Residents living in sangkat Psa Kandal 1 expressed strong worries and fears as currently foreign bars/places open all over the place in abundance, as well as foreigners who like to do drugs and “ service women”, who are attracted by these “ barang” bars.
So they request/wish that authorities would put a stop to barang bars that pop up like mushrooms** like this.
** never knew that expression translates literally to khmer (រីកដូចផ្សិត)
