I'm pretty surprised, I always thought of SE Asia as a one strike and you're out type of place. Seems you can get away with a lot more reading about this guy and Pom Mick/ Dog and other fucking maniacs around.

An incidence of bipolarity or merely moodiness?
Anyway, this guy could not be deported due to Covid? If he did his time, then paid his fine, he walked... But he was previously arrested three times in Thailand. He probably arranged false I.D., then returned, or maybe never left by paying off the cops until the less corrupt caught up with him...

He put up $10000 worth of property to get bail in Thailand and then legged it.

Are you talking about in Cambodia or Thailand because I haven't heard many people getting bail in Cambodia?

I meant when he was locked up in Thailand but I might be mixing it up with another story.

Anyway from what I understand about the situation in Cambodia, there's are number of ways people slip through the loop. If you're arrested with a passport and then released there are a number of options. They give release papers to all prisoner at the end of their sentence. This document will waive any previous visa overstay if presented to the immigration department. Then you're given 30 days to leave the country under your own means or face the consequences. The second option if arrested with a passport and your visa expired is to pay the overstay and carry on as normal. The final option if arrested upon release to go underground similar to what this guy did.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:34 pmI meant when he was locked up in Thailand but I might be mixing it up with another story.
Some people however are arrested without having their passport confiscated and their visa stayed valid throughout their sentence and upon release they carry on as normal.
Finally you have the group which are arrested without passport or document and at the end of their sentence just carry on as they did before after release on the ever continuing spiral downwards . On a side note you have to remember that prison doesn't carry the same stigma that it does in other countries as most people know the system is corrupt and it's a money game. This includes the police

It’s a good question Fred. I’d be interested to hear the answer. As you have experience of prison life here your input in this sort of thing is incredibly interesting.
I wish you would write about it more. I’m sure people would find it fascinating.
I suspect most 440 readers think your arrest and time inside was unfair at best and a disgrace at worst. You’ve become a much more interesting poster as a result of it, although I suspect that’s little consolation.

I'd love to hear of your experiences through the legal system and in prison.
Surely there must be some way to do it, with leaving out sensitive details and requesting mods not to allow any guest comments on that thread.
I have a khmer friend who is going through legal issues, being prosecuted without any proof, 'evidence' is based on hearsay. I fear that he could end up in prison, and am convinced that he has done nothing wrong. Whilst different for foreigners and khmer your story could help me understand what could be coming his way and i could maybe learn of ways to help him.

That’s a weird response. You never struck me as someone who would be bothered by others opinions, especially anonymous guests.
