That's complete bullshit and I'm surprised that a former Peace Corps Volunteer would say something like.Phuket2006 wrote: I was in the PC in 1978-1980 in Zarie, Most are indeed right out of college and first time abroad and drop out rate is high
When you COS and you were in a sensitive area (i was) your "invited" to sit down with the cia, but u can refuse.
Best, lowest paying job i ever held...
First, with the easily provable false statement, most volunteers are not right out of college and first time abroad. "As of November 2014, seven percent of PCVs were ages 50 and older, and the average age of a Peace Corps Volunteer was 28." And "a number of our program openings require several years of experience or a master’s degree – something our younger applicants have not yet achieved." (From the Peace Corps website)
Secondly, after service volunteers are not "invited" to sit down with the CIA - that's ridiculous. They actually go to great lengths to keep even an appearance of a connection at bay. For instance, you are disqualified to being a Peace Corps volunteer if you've ever worked in the intelligence community, and are barred from working in the intelligence community for five years after your Peace Corps. This is taken very seriously, and any application to such an agency (such as the CIA) will strictly ask you this question right at the beginning. The Peace Corps is an independent agency, to further separate it. And this isn't a new thing, here's a discussion on it from 1981.
