Capital Administration inform the public that on the morning of 11 November 2017, the competent authorities stopped the tuk-tuk (Made in India), about 170 units that are running fares in the capital without being registered and did not have proper ID tags. They are being stored stored temporarily by the Royal Police.
But by understanding the livelihood of drivers, the administration had instructed the Department of Public Works Department in collaboration with the Municipal Police officials prepare to complete their registration plates for the three-wheel from Sunday, November 12, 2017 .
Therefore, the tuk tuks are kept at the Phnom Penh Police Commissariat, preparing all relevant documents and registering the correct number plates.
At the same time, Phnom Penh Capital Hall would like to clarify that the Capital Hall has no intention of causing interference or obstructing the daily activities of the owners of the tuk tuks, but rather the enforcement of the law especially the traffic law.

I wonder how much the Municipal Police would sell one for? I promise to get it registered.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

No it makes sense. Couldn’t get a tuktuk yesterday.
Thankfully Smart sent me 2 free Uber rides so got one of those instead.
Incidentally, Uber appears to have spread coverage across the city quite quickly.

Story goes....
One dude crashes into a Chief of Police.
Rickshaw has no plates and couldn't be found.
So the traffic police was on a manhunt to stop any and all passapp and passapp lookalikes with no plates to catch the guy.
Cha-ching.

If it is about law enforcement, how about catching those damn "Remorque" styled tuk-tuks that are always going up one way streets the wrong way or generally driving/parking like absolute tools. These Indian style tuk-tuks are way better, they keep up with traffic, and so far tend to obey traffic laws much better from my casual observation.

The remorques are Khmer, and Khmer love Khmer, so driving the wrong way, blocking the opposite lane at the lights, and parking 4 foot from the curb is simply an appropriate public display of civic congeniality.Spigzy wrote:If it is about law enforcement, how about catching those damn "Remorque" styled tuk-tuks that are always going up one way streets the wrong way or generally driving/parking like absolute tools. My reading of the post article on the seizure is that passapp did not properly register themselces or their driver's vehicles as a ride sharing service as per requirements of a recent (October) prakas.
