There is a fair chance they are using different definition.Kachang wrote:A few days ago another article was published about the number of foreigners in detention, and according to the DoI, quoted in that article, about 176.000 foreigners are currently residing in Cambodia.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:I guess I read that I read the article a little differently than you.
No of foreigners working in Cambodia is 160k (or 176k)
Number of foreigners who don’t have a WP is over 100k.
I read that as perhaps within the 100k we have people who
- are working, should have WP but don’t
- are working, don’t need WP and don’t have one
- aren’t working and don’t think they need a work permit, but crap themselves every time the police stop at their house
- are working, want a WP but have no idea how to do it (freelance)
I reckon they just don’t have a clue how many of the 100k are actually required to have a WP.
Yesterday another ministry claimed about 160.000 foreigners are working in Cambodia and might be in need of a work permit.
I believe those two numbers (176k staying, 160k working) from two different government institutions do not match.
Foreigners working in Cambodia I would assume to be long term residents
Foreigners in Cambodia includes short term visitors.
Its futile trying to second guess them. One could even be using old data.
