That is a great shame, he may have been a little on the eccentric side, but he did a lot of good here in Cambodia over the years.
I had the opportunity to meet him a few times up in Siam Reap many years ago, an interesting man to say the least.
RIP and condolences to his family

RIP Beat - he was eccentric, but had a passion beyond obsession! I worked with him on a couple of occasions - a very caring man, mostly treated his staff really well, and had the tenacity of a bulldog when it came to raising funds for his hospitals. Cambodia would be a much poorer place in terms of the medical field without his legacy.

Reason: Deleted the reference to Fa Canal’s ridiculous comment.

Never got to meet him in my time here, but what a legacy to leave behind, must have been a top, top, bloke.
What I don't understand, is how I never put him together with Gloria Estefan - it literally just popped in my mind. Ah well, he loved his music right?

Mere words don't aptly describe the gift of Beat Richner's life work for the children of Cambodia. Amazing foundation treating half a million children for free every year. He will be deeply missed and celebrated for many years to come.
Freedom is not a state. It is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau.. Freedom is a continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.-John Lewis
Chapeau, Dr. Richner. What a hero, what a life. Cambodia will miss you.
See you again, next time.

I'm impressed with how many Cambodians I'm FB friends with have posted about him, thanking him, photos of him, etc. The only other foreigner I've seen Cambodians post as much about is Nielsen.
I remember the wife telling me about 6-7 years ago that she and her sister were to awake at 2am to get to the front of the queue at Khanta Bopha for the free vaccinations. Over the last year in Australia we have had to re vaccinate. So many vaccinations required here. Dr Beat has saved my millions of lives. Many years ago I spoke with his 2ic after offering to bring my sister to play chamber music with Dr Beat. She is a professional musician and chamber music is her thing. No, sorry he is not interested. I decided then that he was a nutter.
RIP
I stopped by on Friday morning to pay my respects and the place was full of people coming in and out. One silver lining is that hopefully this has raised a lot of money for the organization. Make your donations too!
