It's not just Sihanoukville that is turning into a Chinese city but also a place called "Thmada" located in Pursat province.

Thousands of Chinese will be moved in as laborers. Why aren't they hiring local Cambodians? Besides, they're cheaper anyway. Imagine if thousands of westerners or even Nigerians were moved in to work as construction workers in China. There'd be a race riot started by the Chinese, who would accuse these foreigners of taking away their jobs! Yet that's exactly what the Chinese are doing themselves in foreign countries!! Why are the Chinese going to a poorer country and allowed to bring in all their own workers? Yet more casinos are being built and yet more crime will follow and the poor Cambodian people will probably not be allowed to protest, lest they end up in jail. This is criminal. Who wants to have more unfriendly Chinese come to their backyard? Especially lots of young, ugly unemployed males who "work" as casino punters for gamblers back home? I've seen increasing numbers of these guys cross the Thai-Myanmar border at Mae Sot, and Thai immigration even has a special "Chinese" lane for them now.
Also, these Chinese investors seem to have an obsession with border areas and particularly the Thai border - almost all of these projects, from the Yatai one in Shwe Koko, Myanmar to the Golden triangle one (Kings Romans) on the Lao bank, to these two mentioned in this report, are located right up next to the Thai border. Clearly the Thais don't allow such kind of investment, but I think this is a strategy to "soften" up the Thais to eventually accept to become a Chinese colony of sorts, as Cambodia, to a large extent Laos and Myanmar already are.
What is going on here? Some kind of strategic Chinese invasion of SE Asia? This is extremely frightening, come to think of it. Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are all losing their sovereignty. Westerners and even local Cambodians are already increasingly unwelcome in Sihanoukville. How will this play out for the rest of Cambodia?

I agree. The Thais are smart and fiercely proud of their independence. A lot smarter than the Cambodian leadership (not to mention the Lao and Burmese). I think foreigners who still decide to live in Cambodia will eventually find they're no longer welcome if they're not Chinese in coming years.
Or to stand any chance, better brush up on your Mandarin, looks like it may become more important than Khmer. Plus Chinese people don't speak English so a knowledge of Mandarin Chinese is necessary.
