Long face boutique hotel resident takes bite of tourist
Long face boutique hotel resident takes bite of tourist
Legal question: I am traveling on holiday in Cambodia. Stayed in a fairly nice boutique resort a few nights. One night (I swear this is true and have the gory photos to prove it) an alligator gar jumped out of a pond on the resort and bit my finger to the bone with razor sharp teeth. I was bleeding profusely. Night manager promised to pay hospital expenses and tuk tuk costs. Off I went to ER to get sewn up. Next day, general manager was super apologetic and asked what he could do. At the time I was about 40 USD out of pocket and I actually wanted to stay an extra night at the resort. I offered to accept a free night ($80 US value). He agreed and actually said he would give me a couple free nights since I needed follow up visits. But I took one night free and left next day to keep on schedule to meet friends.
Since then I've incurred about $40 more on pharmacy supplies and follow up at a better hospital in another city.
Some lawyer friends in other Asian cities have suggested I should probably ask for more. At least compensation for all out of pocket costs. I didn't go there originally because I figured it's Cambodia and I'd be pushing my luck. So the question is should I ask to recoup my expenses or more? The wound seems to be heading quickly. Second doctor says stitches out in a day or two. No infection. But there is a small chance of some nerve damage or mobility issues due to the deep cut. Maybe further medical when I get home. But unlikely I think.
Should I ask for something or drop it?

I don't see what the issue is here. Would you prefer to stay in an unguarded premises?

If the guy's poor - ask for more. If the guy's rich - let it go. Or is it the other way around - I forget.
Ps - what the fucks that in the wound? Looks like barbed wire.

"We, the sons of John Company, have arrived"
Is that what those things are called? I thought they were some kind of fish. The blue ones are truly terrifying.
Anyway, there's no way it jumped out as your boyfriend was sauntering innocently past. He must have been poking at it. Serves him right.

Pretty sure the perp is not an alligator but a crocodile.

The op (not me or a boyfriend) said it’s an alligator gar, not an alligator or crocodile.
Alligator gars are easily identifiable because they are fish with no legs. Also known as alligator fish. Apparently they swim in the Mekong and the authorities want them dead because they are so dangerous.
Don’t hold it against me if he’s wrong but look at this goddamn fish from hell.
“Crocodile fish found in Battambang province, Cambodia
March 10, 2012
The Southeast Asia Weekly
Cambodian fisherman in Battambang province caught a crocodile fish in a canal but the official of fishery administration department banned its release into the river, citing that it could eat other small fish and put people in danger. Crocodile fish is a rare fish species and it is found in Mekong River. The fish is shaped like crocodile. (Norkor Wat daily)”
