Hung-over Swedish girls returning from Cambodia cause chaos and drink Corona
Julia Walentin, 26, from Gothenburg and her friend Dina, 26, from Stockholm were on their way to London when they started having headaches. They had transited in Singapore after their flight from Cambodia where they had been drinking too many Singapore Sling.
They asked the airline company to give them a free upgrade to business class because they had trouble standing. Instead of giving them an upgrade, the airline company freaked out and suspected that Julia had contacted the Coronavirus.
"I tried to explain that I was only tired and hung-over but they moved everybody on my row and made me lay down, which was really nice" she said. "They put a mask on me and started to check my temperature. The thermometer showed 40,3 and I started to believe that I really had it."
Dina, who was feeling better, had to answer a lot of questions about their trip. The trip took 14 hours but the friends say it felt like 40. Their temperature was checked twice every hour and a flight attendant wearing double masks was tasked with keeping her eyes on Julia throughout the trip.
"One time when I was sleeping she was just standing there and staring at her", said Dina.
The friends tried to explain that it was just a couple Singapore sling too many. "We hadn't read the news when we were in Cambodia so we didn't know that it had blown up with additional security checks", said Dina.
When the plane landed on Heathrow airport chaos broke out. Everybody on the plane had to fill out forms about where they had been and how they felt. "Everybody was looking so angrily at me", said Julia. "It had already taken 14 hours. Having to spend extra time because some stupid girl had Coronavirus, no they were not very happy with me."
The two Swedish girls were held on the plane until everybody else had left and were taken out by two doctors and four fire fighters wearing protective suits. "They were smoke diver suits and helmets. I started to wonder if I would explode or start to burn from the Coronavirus", said Dina.
They were led to the back of a bus on the airport which took them to quarantine where they were picked up by an ambulance and taken to a hotel that had been shut and turned into Heathrow's temporary Corona department. According to the doctors there were already Coronavirus positive patients held in the hotel and they had to wait for their turn to be tested by swabbing deep in their throats and in their noses.
The hotel reception was covered with plywood, it smelled like Chlorine and the room was ice cold because the ventilation had been turned off to decrease the infection risk. The friends were allowed to order what ever they wished from the restaurant attached to the hotel.
"I ordered fish and chips and two Corona beers", said Dina. "According to instructions when we ordered food the staff would knock thrice on the door, then we had to wait for one minute before we could open the door and grab the food." Leftovers had to be put in an orange plastic bag and put outside the door. "There were so many rules, it was very apocalyptic."
They were ordered to remain in quarantine for 14 days but their temperature had dropped to 36 and the friends convinced the staff to let them be quarantined in Julia's apartment in London.
"The doctors told us to keep the windows open when my boyfriend drove us home. If I wanted to hug him I had to hold my breath and turn my face away", she said. "Now we are just waiting for the test results."

Having recently taken a morning flight from Bangkok following a booze-fueled night out around some of the city's seamier night spots, I feel a degree of sympathy for the poor hapless girls.

whatever happened to the good old days of flying where yu could fly to london via bangkok and have a few billies at home before the taxi arrived, get a few quick bevvies in at departure bar, continue drinking free cold VB onboard, get a few quick ones in at the old bkk airport tranist bar, back on baord and drink on the leg to london and swear like a drunken sailor with your mates then pass out somewhere over the gulf, then when you arrived in london start looking for the nearest pint of tennants extra and the worst that happen was some hostie that you try to hit on somewhere over india whilst waiting for a cubicle was giving it 2nd thoughts at london arrivals

I remember flying Aeroflot GOT-BKK when upon landing a fellow with a drinking habit started walking up the aisle to the exit while we were still rolling on the runway and gulping down a bottle at the same time.
Stewardesses tried to calm him down to no avail but nothing really happened. The whole last leg from SVO was basically a big party where everyone consumed what they had bought in the tax free.
As late as 1995 doing the same trip a friend and I split a while bottle of J&B that we'd bought in the tax free while sitting at the gate in GOT waiting to board the Tu-134 to Moscow. Again noone cared.
Since then, and especially since the turn of the millennium, standards seem to have been tightened.

I like these girls too. Seems a lot of trouble to go thru for two Corona beers, however.
