Full article: https://www.khmer440.com/k/2020/03/fear ... -covid-19/A British man that visited the Tuol Sleng genocide museum with a Chinese friend were suspected of having contacted the virus and was admitted to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital. The man escaped triggering a manhunt and he was found to have fled to Kampot. The stunt has angered locals adding fuel to the fire making locals feel that foreigners, particularly Westerners, are not taking the pandemic seriously.
While locals are seen wearing protective masks and taking countermeasures, foreigners have taken a much laxer approach worrying more about visa extensions and restaurant closures than about being infected. Foreigners often claim to not take precautions because they feel that masks and hand sanitizers don’t work to combat COVID-19, something that has angered Cambodians and made them feel like Westerners don’t care about their health and safety.

These are great, open in Khmer and closed in English or what?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Yes, it says “We are open” in Khmer...Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:29 amThese are great, open in Khmer and closed in English or what?
What a dumb move. Hopefully it will alienate all the western regulars.
I suggest to keep a record of the businesses that use those practices, obviously they don't like foreigners and don't need their patronage.

Happening in Vietnam too though the government has imposed fines for any discrimination. I do like the way people cross the street when they see me. And a post is making the rounds of a Vietnamese woman getting assaulted in Oz for wearing a face mask.

I think that is bullshit. People are plain scared and irrational, it is happening all over the world.

Yea doesn't racism suck when it happens to you? Luckily nobody here ever says anything racist, nor ever thinks negative thoughts or looks down on people of another race.
Everybody here would treat a van full of Cambodian Muslims the same as a van full of expats, right?

These are likely businesses that don’t get many foreigners anyway.
But yes, I’d avoid them if there was a list compiled.

I hope you're not complaining about the congratulatory video I posted.Miguelito wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 8:44 amYea doesn't racism suck when it happens to you? Luckily nobody here ever says anything racist, nor ever thinks negative thoughts or looks down on people of another race.

Shooting shit about it is not the same as being it in practice. Except when Playboy does it. But I agree that people are ignorant and scared. It's any government's job to keep them so.
I dipped into Facebook briefly yesterday, and there was a post by a 'foreigner' complaining that a local street restaurant in HCM had put them on a table across the street on their own.
Up the workers!
I’ve seen this posts here, and various FB group. Not checked TOF yet.
All it does is fuel wanker angry expats to have a reason to kick off.
I’ve never had an issue because I wear a mask. I bet all these shops got sick of expats refusing to either clean their hands (saw that yesterday) or wear masks (yeah I know they don’t do fuck all). It’s not fucking rocket science.
Went out to a restaurant full of locals. No odd looks no refusal.
If they don’t want you move on.

I still feel much more welcomed here than I imagine non-whitey has felt in post Brexit UK.
I've been out and about a fair bit the last couple of days, cycling round, running the odd errand, and I can't say I have noticed any of the above negative attitudes. Everyone as friendly as usual. Perhaps it's my charisma and (unmasked) winning smile.
