Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.
I just registred myself as landlord of my place, using the gf's name. And I checked myself in until next visa renewal. So now I am in the system I guess, and so removed the bulky app again. Takes no time to reinstall, if need be.
Yes, you have to register when visiting relatives of your wife.
I went to Kampong Cham 7 times my first few years in Sihanoukville and Kampot to go to weddings and Pchum Ben...
This past February, the local police came to my wife's family home and wanted my passport..visa... registered me in a book..took pics of my documents and then we all smiled and they took pics of me and the police officers.
The head man told my wife next time to just stop by the station and say I am there...
I paid my June rent today and my landlord promised to have me registered by next week...
This interview answered all my questions.
I renew my extension every August.
My landlord is great and loves my wife and they live next door ...We share the swimming pool...
I have had 4 landlords in Cambodia and I am lucky to have a great one this year.

I think so, will give it a try in a couple of weeks...

If this app is only supposed to be for landlords and not foreigners, why is it so top heavy in size with multiple languages? Since foreigners cannot own land, it follows that landlords would be Khmer, thus you only need the app in Khmer.

A few hundred thousand condominiums says many forigeners will be landlords.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 11:58 amIf this app is only supposed to be for landlords and not foreigners, why is it so top heavy in size with multiple languages? Plus, like everything lately, it's probably been designed with Chinese investment in mind.
I don't think having a language selection drop down makes an app in any way "top heavy", but rather is normal design regardless of end use.

Personally, I think they started this project with one thing in mind and changed course.

We still can? I thought that got changed until they decided where foreigners are allowed to own property, i.e. zones of foreign ownership? Ownership laws keep shifting every few years, making the investment climate cloudy. They keep shoving condos out saying buy buy, but the law is still shaky on this point of foreign ownership.Phuket2006 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 8:45 amBUT Barangs can own apts/condoskungfufighter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 4:23 pmGood point.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 11:58 amIf this app is only supposed to be for landlords and not foreigners, why is it so top heavy in size with multiple languages? Either way, good point. I still think this was not fully thought through or well implemented. Ya, I know, newsflash for the KoW.

JUST QUERY.IS IT ALLOWED TO RENEW YOUR VISA IF BEFORE 1ST JULY IF STILL NOT REGISTERED.MY RETIRE. VISA DUE THIS WEEK BUT NOT REG. YET.ALSO CAN SOMEONE RECOMEND COMPANY TO DO RENEWAL.<I DONT WANT TO GO TO AIRPORT> THANKS
There is a popular belief that this is aimed at the landlords who have Vietnamese without papers living in their domiciles.
If a Westerner owned a condo on a floor above the ground they could rent it out and therefore need to be registered for when tourists stayed there.
A person could own several units and live in one but rent out the other.
It also takes into consideration people who have weekend or vacation places that they only use part of the year.
If a person owned a high end condo in Sihanoukville with ocean views and was only there a month out of the year they would typically want to rent it as much as possible. I stayed in houses in Jamaica and Argentina many times and rented from the owner. This is similar.
When I enter Cambodia at PP or SR airport there is never enough space to write my address on the document. The lack of numerical addresses makes it impossible. I keep a copy of my address in my wallet and often have my lease in my backpack just in case.
If I was in PP I would go to Lucky Lucky...ti renew my extension..

A question to which I think I know the answer but just to be sure...
Presumably two people can register on the same phone?
I don't think my landlord is capable of doing this so my boy and I thought we'd buy a cheap phone and register both of us on it then chuck it in a cupboard.
Will this work?
Thanks.
