https://people.com/pets/animal-welfare- ... -cambodia/It's yet another dog meat story with a happy ending.
On August 5, FOUR PAWS, a global animal welfare organization, shut down a dog meat slaughterhouse in the Kampong Thom Province of Cambodia that was critical to the dog meat trade in the country. Along with closing the slaughterhouse, FOUR PAWS rescuers were also able to save the 15 dogs found alive on-site.
This animal rights victory comes shortly after Cambodian province Siem Reap announced a province-wide ban on the sale and consumption of dog meat. Siem Reap is the first Cambodian province to take this step.
Across the country, an estimated 3 million dogs are slaughtered each year for consumption, according to release from FOUR PAWS. The organization hopes that Siem Reap's ban and the organization's continued work to end the dog meat trade will lead to a country-wide ban on dog meat sales and consumption in Cambodia.
The slaughterhouse recently shut down by FOUR PAWSs reportedly killed up to 3,000 dogs each year and served as the largest dog meat supplier in the area. This closure will likely interrupt the dog meat supply to neighboring provinces as well.
FOUR PAWS did not leave the former slaughterhouse owners without a livelihood. The organization is helping the former owners, who "expressed remorse over killing dogs and desperation to get out of the trade," according to FOUR PAWS, build and supply a small grocery store to ensure the owners have a humane, and sustainable way to support themselves. FOUR PAWS also removed all of the former slaughterhouse's cages and equipment to help with the transition.
The 15 dogs found in the rusty, filthy cages pulled from the slaughterhouse were taken from the facility and brought to FOUR PAWS' local partner charity, Animal Rescue Cambodia. The canines will remain at the rescue, receiving medical care and affection, until they are ready to be adopted into loving homes.
"There is incredible momentum throughout Cambodia to end the dog meat trade and we are relieved to see this facility closed for good. We have not just changed the lives of the dogs rescued, but also the tens of thousands of dogs that will be spared a horrific death for their meat. We have also been able to successfully work with the owner of the facility, who did not want to be involved in the trade any longer. But the work does not just end with the closure. The coming weeks to months will be critical in providing ongoing medical treatment to the rescued dogs, in addition to the love and care required to help them recover from this traumatic experience," Dr. Katherine Polak, Head of FOUR PAWS Stray Animal Care in Southeast Asia and a veterinarian, said in a statement.

Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.
It’s nice that the NGO made sure the dog flaying scum didn’t suffer financially, and I’m quite confident that once the white folk have taken all their PR pics and left the neighbourhood that the proprietors won’t be back in the business, and that the resident pooches will be completely safe from the prospect of being skinned alive and boiled to death because some uneducated twat thinks it helps his meagre hardon.

I always fail to understand those like the guest above who seem to think that the dog meat trade is worse than any other animal meat trade! Have you ever heard the noise that the pigs make when on the way to the slaughterhouse? Ever seen a chicken run around without its head?
The only thing I have against dog meat is that it is too fucking chewy and they should consider only using puppies which have consumed nothing more than their mother's milk!

I always fail to understand those like Horace above who seem to think they know all posters think about other subjects based on a post that doesn’t mention those subjects.
Why do you assume you know position on slaughtering pigs or chickens based on a post about flaying dogs alive and boiling them?

I once had bbq dog chunks in Northern Vietnam which were a taste sensation. The bbq chunks had been seriously marinated in every spice n sauce known to the Viets and after being grilled were wrapped in various different leaves. One took a wrapped chunk and chewed away, the act was not dissimilar to the chewing of pan (sp) in India and the mouth quickly filled with juices n saliva. Once the chewing was done and no more juices were to be had , you pulled the meat from your mouth and threw it to the local dogs to eat.
Far better than fucking bbq shrapnel cat.

Of things I give a fuck about, Asians eating dogs is pretty low down on the list.
Tried it, some was good, some wasn't so much. It dos pis me off when white folk say stupid things like 'It's against Buddhist tradition/Most Cambodians don't eat dog'. BULLSHIT, everyone's having a nibble here and there, or is lying about it. These folk will eat anything, and the boiling/flaying alive stuff is also bollocks. They knock the fuckers over the back of the neck and severe the spine, not so pleasant, but fairly death quick from what I've seen.
Sustainable source of protein, not always to my taste, but then I don't eat grubs, spiders or fermented small fish either- I'd rather have dog than some of the other shit they pass as food round here.

I wonder how it'd taste if someone decided to spit roast Horace?
Bitter, tough, chewy with all the cycling muscle, but with a slightly herbal flavor. Probably best to marinade him for a day or 2 after being sliced and diced by W@lt's mrs.
I'd say a slow cooker/Dutch oven recipe would be best.
It is worse though because humans and dogs have a symbiotic relationship that goes back thousands of years where we each have taken care of each other in our own ways. We have also bred the wild out of them and the empathy into them.horace wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 7:03 pmI always fail to understand those like the guest above who seem to think that the dog meat trade is worse than any other animal meat trade! Also yes killing animals is often awful but dogs have a particularly hard time of it as they are deliberately tortured to death as it makes the meat more agreeable (unlike say pork).

The French n Viets also eat horse, don't hear much about that, do you? Rats n cats are consumed in SE Asia, camels in N Africa, Guinea pigs in S America, food is food. If you eat meat you cannot morally complain against another meat eating culture

Bullshit, every country has, until recently eaten dog (except the Brits and yanks). 'War meat' in Europe, still enjoyed in Switzerland on the hush puppy hush.orde wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 9:27 pmIt is worse though because humans and dogs have a symbiotic relationship that goes back thousands of years where we each have taken care of each other in our own ways. Scott failed to reach the south pole and died partly because he wouldn't eat his dogs, Amundsen left with 52 dogs and came back alive with just 11.
Every culture other than the Anglos and perhaps the middle east have eaten dog since time began- and why fucking not?

The main argument against eating dog meat is that dogs are carnivores, and eating carnivores closes the food chain and allows too many pathogens into human food supply.
I have eaten dog meat a few times - puppy soup a la North Korea and dried dog 'jerky' as a beer snack in Battambang. I have to say, I am in no rush to go out and eat it again, nothing special and there are much better options available.
Also, there is that whole Lindeman's trophic transfer inefficiency, but to be honest that is more applicable at the hunter-gather to small holdings stage of development.
