Although Prime Minister Hun Sen called on people to remain calm and not panic, some people are fleeing Phnom Penh due to rumors that the city may be locked down. Prime Minister Hun Sen said that although he will not call for a state of emergency at this time, he is considering a lockdown in the city, however the situation is still under control.
Gossip went viral online and rumors of 23 cases of Covid-19 infections are spreading on social media. The Ministry of Health has repeatedly refuted rumors to avoid social panic.
Some people are questioning the official narrative. "Weren't there 5 Chinese people who returned from Cambodia and were found to be infected with Covid-19 recently? Didn't they get tested and cleared in Cambodia? What was the result?", someone wrote on social media.
As of today a total of 3 people have been confirmed infected with Covid-19 after being in contact with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó. 1,531 contacts have been traced of which 1,481 people in 7 provinces were tested for Covid-19 and let go after they tested negative.
A Chinese man detained in Sihanoukville prison wrote on WeChat: "I was hesitating before, but now I plan to pay so I can leave prison and return to China as quick as possible."
Schools in Phnom Penh and Kandal have suspended in-person teaching and law enforcement officials are patrolling establishments urging entertainment venues to close to prevent the spread of the epidemic. So far 429 entertainment venues had been closed down in Phnom Penh including KTV, nightclubs, spas, massage centers, gyms and so on. Sources say that many KTVs are still operating quietly despite the ban.
Some Cambodians have started to flee Phnom Penh and return to their provinces because they are scared of Covid-19. Many Chinese people worry that plane tickets will increase and are also planning to return to China as soon as possible.
A Chinese businessman on a business trip to Phnom Penh told reporters that he saw many people leaving Phnom Penh because they were afraid of the virus. The hotel where he is staying is booked yet almost empty because people have left early. "Schools are closed, why is the casino still open? There are more people playing and the risk is greater", he said.

The city is so great for last couple of days. I wish it'd be like that all the time. No traffic jams, can almost breeze.
They should just stay in province and get money over there, instead of trying to live the FAKE big city dream.
