Are Covid-19 vaccines being sold on the black market?
Rumors are circulating about Covid-19 being sold on the Cambodian black market. On Tuesday afternoon an SMS written in Chinese was sent to many Cambodian phone numbers offering vaccination for a service fee of $120.
According to the SMS sent on Tuesday the appointment for vaccination is free but each person has to pay a "service fee" of $120. This fee includes airport pick-up and drop-off. The vaccine offered is the same Sinopharm vaccine that was donated to Cambodia by China and there are only 1,000 doses available.
A reporter called the number that the SMS was sent from and the person who answered said that the vaccine itself is free but a special car is responsible for the shuttle, so a service charge is required. Those who wish to be vaccinated can make an appointment by providing their name, phone number, WeChat or other contact information. A car will be sent to pick them up on the agreed time. Vaccinations will be done in the end of the month.
The SMS went viral in Chinese expat circles and many are wondering: Who has the right to sell vaccines donated by China? Assuming that they manage to sell all 1,000 doses, they would earn $120,000 on their "shuttle service".
According to other online rumors the vaccine is being sold on the black market in Sihanoukville for $450 per injection.
98 people have been infected with Covid-19 in relation to the February 20 community spread incident. 82 of them are Chinese and the virus is spread out across the country.

So why don't the police pretend to be punters. How difficult is it to catch these guys?

Considering a number of people barely trust the authenticity of liquor from established liquor stores, I'm sure people will trust a black market vaccine here.
Isn't it available for free anyways here?

Surely a scam? Wing them your $$, wait for your 'pick-up' to arrive at the end of the month..

The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia issued an emergency notice today to remind Chinese citizens in Cambodia to be highly vigilant against illegal sales of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia said that they have received reports from some Chinese citizens in Cambodia that some people sent them a Chinese language SMS claiming they could make an appointment to get the new Covid-19 vaccine by paying a service fee of $120; Some people openly advertise the Chinese vaccine o nsocial media at $450 per injection, causing doubt among Cambodians.
The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia solemnly reminds that according to the understanding of the Chinese Embassy, the Cambodian government and military are responsible for the storage and distribution of the Chinese Covid-19 vaccine. Vaccine applications are subject to extremely strict approval procedures. There is no China-aided vaccine entering the private market.
The Chinese Embassy emphasized: "Any advertisements for China's new Covid-19 vaccine are fraudulent, please be aware."
The Chinese Embassy stated that the new vaccine is not an ordinary commodity and has strict requirements on storage and transportation. Vaccination must be carried out by professionals. Any vaccines obtained through informal channels and vaccinations by amateurs may cause health problems and safety risks and legal consequences.

Phnom Penh: The director of Angkor Today, who published in Chinese, "Cambodia sells 19 Chinese Kovid vaccine for $ 120" was finally arrested in Siem Reap on the evening of February 24. 2021, according to General Chhay Sinarith, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police, told the Director General of Fresh News a little earlier.
The arrested director of Angkor Today is SHEN KAIDONG, a Chinese national based in Siem Reap. Angkor Today, formerly known as the Angkor Times, is a sole proprietorship.
General Chhay Sinarith added that after the arrest of the Chinese national, the authorities will continue the procedure to send to the Siem Reap Provincial Court for legal punishment.
The arrests came after the newspaper reported on Wechat that "Cambodia sells vaccines with Chinese aid" and the Cambodian Ministry of Health immediately rejected the publication of the Angkor Today online newspaper. Promote that Cambodia sells 19 Kovid vaccines with Chinese aid.
Ms. O Vandin, Secretary of State and Leader of the Ministry of Health, considered the promotion of Angkor Today a nonsense. She confirmed that the vaccination of Kovid 19, a Chinese aid to Cambodia, has only been given to priority groups announced by the Ministry of Health.
The spokesman condemned some of the people who polluted society by fabricating this information to mislead the public and confuse Cambodia.
