Gendarmerie are out in force, accompanied by a catchy public health educational song sang to the tune of Michael Bublé's ' I wanna go home'

That song is special
IF this keeps on till June... well it isn't my country to comment on.
But from what I see, the Govt has a pretty good read on Khmer people so far. They Government knows it is a big ask, but they work the message in a way that by and large gets most folks acting safe.
How dangerous' it' is or isn't? I'm not here addressing that. How F'ing painful it has been economically on many sectors, not about that. Where Khmer folks fall in some 'sheeple', super freedom fighter continuum, I'm not commenting on that here either. I'm just saying they know Mr & Ms Everyperson well and so far, just raw numbers mind, they have come damn close to ace'ing it.
IF things ease up late April, and open completely sometime in May (with maybe double or triple the deaths and cases totals due to holiday safety being more challenging all around the globe), when new cases are in the low tens and pretty localized. I think most of the country will be proud of the achievement.
(June or longer...?)

I don’t think this show of force is going to end if people keep obeying. Who will voluntarily give up control? When did it happen last time? Never, that’s when. If people keep taking it silently in a doggy position like they have been in the past year, the old times will never come back. Not in our lifetimes. Excuses will be made to keep curfews and all this bs forever if people keep accepting it.

This doesn't affect most Cambodians in any way. The vast majority are at home by 8.00 anyway and are asleep by 9.00. This will affect the people smugglers and other gangsters who have been riding through borders and using the dark nights to conduct nefarious activities.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
It was just announced O'Russei market will be completely closed for the next 2 weeks (so until after KNY). What do you mean "it will not affect most Cambodians"?
Unfortunately, Cambodia has chosen to follow the path other nations went and which have proven to be totally ineffective. Just copy/paste, copy/paste, rinse and repeat, whereas Cambodia had been rather effective in NOT copying other nation's measures. Sigh...

I didn't know about O'Russei being closed. What I meant is that most Cambodians operate from the break of dawn till sunset. In bed and asleep by 9.00 kind of thing.frigidaire wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 12:22 amIt was just announced O'Russei market will be completely closed for the next 2 weeks (so until after KNY). If this does not affect most Cambodians, what is the use of this? It is clearly not to fight the virus. It is to demonstrate “toughness” to “persuade” people to not have funny ideas.
Now that western states have gone orwellian (France in a national lockdown again, others), asian states have no fear to be accused of violating human rights. It’s a dream come true. They can now always point a finger back at western states.
People in the west gave away their freedoms just like that, like they never had them. Unbelievable but this is the sad reality we live in. If there is hoping for normal old days, it won’t happen without a fight, mark my words. Once freedoms are taken away, they are not returned out of good will.

It will curtail criminal activity and benefit many of the good citizens.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 1:48 amIf this does not affect most Cambodians, what is the use of this? It is clearly not to fight the virus. It is to demonstrate “toughness” to “persuade” people to not have funny ideas.

They can block everyone from entering the city. They need a ring of fire on the perimeters.jackrossi wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 2:46 amNot really since it is just in the city.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 11:54 pmThis doesn't affect most Cambodians in any way. Compared to the Chinese way, it's just a half-ass implementation. So, we should be happy about that.
Curfew 20:00 - 5:00 is a good one to prevent partying and gambling out, which it seems, tends to be the collection of superspreaders.
It's all about getting the R0 down for the infected area's and avoiding spreading to other areas at all.
Not nice to be the quarantine/curfew target, though much better control as many (if not most) Western countries. I don't like disguised dictators, though it's not that bad IMHO.
