A whole bunch of "guests" posting conspiracy theories and garbage. It's an important topic but nobody is going to even read your script if you aren't even bothered to sign up.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
@ Lucky Lucan or shall i say "Not so lucky lucan"? You've been wrong accusing people here of "misinformation" and "guests" posting conspiracy theories and garbage". Now you do it again and i am asking myself why you are so quick with your abusive, shallow accusations that are also wrong. Here is just one example of how foreign funded Org's are used/misused: It's from way back but it doesn't mean it has stopped. It actually got worse and the Cambodian Gov. knows it and made the right decision. Like it or NOT !

Whatever guest.

@Lucky Lucan. I'm surprised you even posted my last thread. Well, perhaps you're not as shallow as i thought. If you're in charge of this website i suggest you clean it up a bit. The front page is getting a bit dusty and needs some current news to attract people.
As far as my previous contribution is concerned i would like to add that it has significance to Cambodia aswell.
Cambodia's Prime Minister had this to say:PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen called on the United States on Friday to withdraw Peace Corps volunteers in an escalating row over accusations that U.S. agents conspired with an opposition leader to plot treason.

So to get back to the topic of mother nature's hidden agenda. It's founder Gonzales fits the same mold. Like it or not.
PS:I would really apreciate if you don't call contributors to this blog "Trolls and Conspiracy Peddlers" once you found out that you were wrong.
No offence. I know being a moderator is a difficult task but you need to get rid of your prejudice.

They told me that they started as environmental activists but as they learned more they realized that no changes could be made under the current regime. It is definitely political, their arrests are proof of that. Like many cambodians they want to live in a democracy and are locked up for expressing that believe.Expatissimo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 7:03 pm@Whoknows I suggest you do some research on the subject. I personally have no doubt that the young khmer imprisoned are victims of a thinly veiled anti-government program. The young khmer were used, weaponized and politicized to bring about a regime change. That ..... according to Gonzales plan would make Cambodia an Enviromental Heaven. They believed him and he continues to indoctrinate young khmer from abroad, I feel sorry for those in jail as much as i feel sorry for the many young khmers that fell into former opposition Leaders trap (sam rainsy) which turned out to be a political arsonist which fled everytime he had to show true colors and left his deciples behind to take the heat. In many countries around the world foreign funded NGO are now getting special attention. Many are now called "foreign agents", and rightly so. Just google USAID+CIA and repeat it with Peacecorps etc. It's not isolated to the US. The German gov. uses young people in their https://www.weltwaerts.de/en/home.html program. Not much benefits the countries targeted but it looks good on their CV. Returnees from such programs have a more sober view what's really going on behind :Doing Good !

You're either joking or a fucking moron, Expatissimo. Are you trying to excuse away the deep corruption and inequality crushing Cambodia by pretending to point fingers at "foreign activists" like Gonzales, or are you making a black satire? Because, if the latter, I think making fun of dedicated activists is just a symptom of the filthy Western neoliberal rot that continues to destroy the whole world with colonial condescension... Perhaps you are right that expat activists accomplish very little, but is it wrong to try to enlighten people about the unjust sellout of the whole land to timber merchants, hydrodams and other destructive land grab schemes run by handful of local yokel pig-Capitalist militaries and their rich friends in China, Vietnam, and wherever?Expatissimo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 7:03 pm@Whoknows I suggest you do some research on the subject. Anyway, it is far far too late to save the forests of Cambodia, they were destroyed more than thirty years ago already.
If we could ride a time machine into the past, one hundred years, two hundred years, and look at Burma and Cambodia, what you would see would be a totally unrecognizable paradise of grand forests with teak trees, etc, with a girth much wider in diameter than any of us has ever seen. The trees are all gone...

You don't need to go back 100 years for Cambodian forests. Flying into Cambodia in the 90's the border with Thailand was very clear and easy to see. There was lots of logging those years (e.g. log lots with a thousand HUGE logs at the Prom border in '98. Logging trucks blowing tires with a single giant log jammed under the rear winch support), but the pace really picked up over the last 20 years. I still see trees that would take 5 men to reach around, but they are rare, and more likely to be Chueteal than more expensive wood.
About Teak, I don't know how much was here 100 years ago either. Untac planted a bunch in cities and towns, but I don't notice it wild in the forests I usually visit. Maybe more in Preah Vihear?
Anyway, it isn't anti government to say some individuals in government are corrupt, nor is it wrong to report and point out that corruption. Those that do are good citizens.

I agree with you 100%, but I am dismayed to see that fossil fuels are being blamed for environmental destruction, because the reality is that agriculture (and specifically beef/chicken/mutton) farming is the biggest culprit

Hun Sen is a very shrewd man. He can read the state of the nation like tea leaves. He understood what the American spies were doing, often disguised as teachers and sometimes Peace Corps volunteers. That's right, they use the Peace Corps volunteers to recruit young Cambodians to work for their NGOs and agitate against a stable and democratic government.Expatissimo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 12:25 am@Lucky Lucan. Maybe your daughter come home and she says "I am working for SHE Investment". What is this SHE? It is the US Embassy, and they try to spread the radical political style known as the "Woke".
I work with foreigners for many years since the UNTAC. We can see clearly, very easily. They just watch until they cause national security problem. This happened to Mr Gonzalez.
Thanks @grandpa.. You're observation matches mine. You must be of a certain age to KNOW !
I suggest you read this book to get a better understanding of how subversion in 3.world countries is conducted by western countries, mainly the US and UK. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessio ... ic_Hit_Man
In order to get control over an empoversihed country they offered foreign aid. The aid was so overblown that the country in question became a victim because there was no way, even from the beginning that they ever could pay back their depth. This is the case of Cambodia, too where the US Government still forces the Cambodian Gov. to pay back the foreign aid it received when under the rule of the corrupt , western oriented pre PolPot Gov. Of course it has to be paid back with interest. Hun Sen , the Cambodian PM short while ago said he will pay it back but over a certain time. That's something some posters seem to miss.

Not that I know anything but I've been around a long time too and not all my friends are street 172 alcoholics - none of them, now. The Brits are said to be the worst with the French and the Germans not long behind. Don't know what the Aussies get up to but I expect they follow the Brits. I've heard snatches of things here and there as you do when you've been around a long time.Grandpa wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 4:56 pmHun Sen is a very shrewd man. The worst thing in my opinion is when journalists play or are employed in these sorts of roles. It could lead to ongoing suspicion of Western reporters whom, if one or two are found to be spies, could consequently be treated like spies. In China, a number of Australian journalists have been kicked out of China after being treated like agents for a foreign power. It's a dangerous suspicion to encourage. We should ideally want people around the world to view "PRESS", whether on a flack jacket or business card, as "DON'T SHOOT". Overseas journalist associations could lose privileges and protection, along with the individual journalists, if they are seen to have been at some point compromised by some power or other.
Isn't that what every media company does?
This government is far better than so many others who tout themselves as world champions of 'democracy'.
People with options can simply leave, not being sarcastic, but I do wonder why so many stay when they are obviously so unhappy. Life is short.
Cambodians are friendly, violent crime is low, life is affordable, the govt has an excellent record wrt COVID (compare Thailand/America/Italy/UK/Japan).
I agree wrt traffic and noise, but nobody claimed it was perfect.
