Is Thailand copying Angkor Wat?
Photos uploaded on a Thai Facebook group show what appears to be a construction of an Angkor Wat replica in Buriram Province, Thailand.
Angkor Wat is a 12th century Hindu temple complex built in the style of medieval Khmer architecture in Siem Reap province.
"I am very proud to have engineers, technicians, philanthropists donate enormous wealth to build here. But there is something uncomfortable because Cambodians start to comment that we are copying them. What do you think?", the caption of the Thai Facebook post says.
In 2015 India scrapped its plans to build a replica of Cambodia's Angkor Wat after the Cambodian government objected.
In June 2015, Cambodia said the proposed temple in India "seriously violates" Angkor Wat, the 12th century world heritage property, which holds exceptional and universal value and is also the country's most popular tourist destination.
Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong described Angkor Wat as the "heart and soul of the Cambodian people".
The Cambodian government has not yet made a statement about the supposed construction of a replica in Thailand.
Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.

Let us not forget the non-outpouring of outrage and misappropriations of fine culture when the Chinese made an Angkor theme park in Nanning.

There was also the problem with the Nokor Bachey Tower replica in a small Kampong Cham restaurant.

I don’t see the French working themselves into a slather over the Arc d’Triumph cup at Koh Pich…

The Eiffel Tower is not a religious site so although I think this is a dumb storm in a tea cup the two can't be compared.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
