Any news on the visa extension/waiver for persons that were stranded here? When will that stop? I know of 1 person who got here in 2020 from a neighboring country on an Asean visa exempt pass which usually is valid for 14 days. They were extended together with the tourist visas in 2020/2021 but not sure when this ends/has ended.
Cambodia - Reduced Quarantine on Arrival
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
How should "Encouraged" (for the insurance) be interpreted ?
The friendly Asian way to say "Mandatory", or the genuine English one "It would be good for you, but not mandatory" ?

The main issue will be how the airlines interpret it, they are the main gatekeepers. Personally I would play it safe...well I am this time anyway as I purchased my Forte insurance before they made all these recent changes.

Yeah, most airlines will caution to the safe side, like SQ:
Singapore Air, Cambodia entry requirements.
Though for USD 90, I can go 5 times with the kids to Lucky Burger

Here is some good news for some of you...
The DoI are going to allow travellers who enter the country on a T-type (Tourist) Visa or e-Visa (online Tourist Visa) issued in 2021 to apply for an EB (Business) or ER (Retirement) Extension of Stay (EOS) without the need to leave the country.
Applications must be made via a Visa Agency.

Do you need a work permit to get an EB visa?
It's the EG you can extend easily for 6 months?

The sooner they get back to the old scheme of just letting people stay on 12 month business visas...working or not....and no need to leave the country..the sooner Cambodia can get back to shangri la status.......
Thailand started tightening visa regulations more than 10 years ago, probably to reduce the riffraff. The theory was, one might guess, that reducing the riffraff would somehow encourage a richer class of expat to park in the country.
Did some of that riffraff move to Cambodia? Yes. Was that horrible for Cambodia? Well I guess that depends who you ask, me personally, I didn't really notice a flood of white folks failing to pay their bills. Maybe a few more low life's, because the total numbers increased, but I'm not sure the % of dodgy folks increased.
Cambodian officials decided they needed to tighten expat oversight as well. The visa system changed, work permits were enforced and tax collection was formalized even for smaller businesses. Not thrilled by the changes, but easily understandable.
Tax collection and accurate oversight = OK, but chilliwilli has a point, Cambodia has other laws and regulations to stop bad activities. If Cambodia, reopening after Covid economic shutdowns, now wants to maximize the foreign income coming into the country, why not make it as easy as possible for expats to stay. 2022, Welcome rich and riffraff alike, 12 month visa extensions easily available for all entering on a $35 "Ordinary" Visa.
If they want to tighten up in 2023, do it then.

With new variant, reduced quarantine suddenly don't sound so great.
With all our yellow friends sneaking people across any Cambodian border or waterway it hardly matters. Let's just hope they bring some new flu home to Pooh Bear as well. Hong Kong had some positive news already so who knows. The world shouldn't forget where this mess originated from...

This can never happen due to Cambodia's membership in ASEAN. It can only get more difficult down the line, favoring only wealthy investors... The young and free will be excluded in favor of the preferred and privileged... Meantime, the Chinese will displace and replace farang tourists, as they already have in Siem Riep and Koh Rong. Eventually, even Kampot will be deserted of Westerners, but a few... In Sihanouk, all the girls are going with the Chinese now, and have been since 2019... The trend is quite clear...chilliwilli wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 6:39 amThe sooner they get back to the old scheme of just letting people stay on 12 month business visas...working or not....and no need to leave the country..the sooner Cambodia can get back to shangri la status.......

Generally the EG is a one time only but there’s been reports of a second EG.
