Little Prince Picked for Top Job
Manet got a fancy U.S. education at the expense of the ignorant poor sheep of Cambodia, who are deprived of adequate educational opportunities because the government has deliberately underfunded education since the fall of the Khmer Rouge up to today. There wouldn't be any new schools in this country if it weren't for the Oknhas.... LOL... what a load of inept corrupt shits !!!

2017.
And as SE Asia countries go HE government is pretty much the same as all the rest, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines (Deterte!) and Singapore who’ve fine tuned corruption and controlling the masses.
Not really a surprise is it.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2017 9:54 amHere's my prediction.
CPP will stay in power in 2018. No surprises there.
HE will either get sick or voluntarily pass on the riengs to his son Samdech Hun Manet, probably in the last two years to 12 months of his rule.
HM will slowly make changes within CCP getting rid of the old and bring in new young(er) generals (and retiring the bloated ranks) and poiticians, with more females. His emphasis will be on people with overseas education, a stab at KR maybe. Who knows. (If you wear glasses you get to become a three star!)
He will still be in the shadow and under the tutelage of his father so it'll be a slow process but Cambodia will enter a more democratic sustainable period within 10 years.
HM is the future. (With help from HE)

Picking Manet for the top job is about as sayer as Leo. Anyone and everyone has been picking it for a decade.
Of course, a decade ago some would have seen Manet being a less brutal, more conciliatory and diplomatic than papa due to his western education. That could still be the case but how to move on the old guard. ? In Sebastian Srangios magnificent book on Hun Sen it details how hunsenonomics worked. Spinning plates of keeping the people who plundered the countryband made millions if not billions , happy while still giving the facade of a democracy. And that was before the last election. If indeed Manet is there to modernise how will that sit with the old guard who've become as rich* and powerful if not more so?chilliwilli wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 4:28 amPicking Manet for the top job is about as sayer as Leo. * it is alleged for immunity from anything and a safe haven for him and all his family in China that HE go $20billion personally for all of the coast SHV to Koh Kong

things are being set up for a dynasty like North Korea, but curiously not like KOWs main sponsor, China.Orichá wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:16 amManet got a fancy U.S. education at the expense of the ignorant poor sheep of Cambodia, who are deprived of adequate educational opportunities because the government has deliberately underfunded education since the fall of the Khmer Rouge up to today. the khmers as I have observed them are not as conformist and idolatrous as the north koreans.
Most of HE cronies are of a similar age to him so HM will just have to wait plus once he’s in power do you really think they will question his policies?Nepotism wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 6:20 amOf course, a decade ago some would have seen Manet being a less brutal, more conciliatory and diplomatic than papa due to his western education. He’ll be as powerful and influential as his father, if not more so with his military ties.
I wonder if HM has any say on policies now? Surely HE asks for his opinion of stuff.
“More green beans son?”
“Oh non for me”
“They’re good for you. Eat up. Look at me and how slim I am. By the way what do you think of the development of Kampong Som as a special economic zone?”
“That’s bollocks dad”.
Etc.

His father has far more military ties, considering how he grew up in the Liberation Army, like many of his old guard.
His full honorary title is Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen (Khmer: សម្តេចអគ្គមហាសេនាបតី តេជោ ហ៊ុន សែន; Khmer pronunciation: [sɑmdac ʔakkĕəʔ mɔːhaː seːnaː paɗəj teːcoː hun saen]; meaning "Lord Supreme Military Commander Hun Sen".

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Yes I know. My FIL tells me off if I don’t use his full title. So I just call him Boss.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 7:29 pmHis father has far more military ties, considering how he grew up in the Liberation Army, like many of his old guard.

I wonder if HM has more younger high ups in the military?
Either way they control it.

In dictatorship environments, it is very important to have full military support and influence, to stay in power.
In democracies, the military is (at least presumed) there to support the democracy & constitution, not a self-appointed / would-be dictator (as got averted earlier this year in the US).
So, guess, about the democracy level of Cambodia.

Hardly self appointed. He was elected by the people. Like it or not.

Maybe look at college votes in the US for fairness and democracy.

And nobody mention lobbying, please.
