It’s first-come-first-serve for private ambulance crews when accident victims are just not in a position to say otherwise.
The minister said in ambulance scams, the emergency vehicle will show up at accident scenes without being called and victims will be taken to a private hospital or clinic where exorbitant fees will be charged for services and treatment rendered.
“When they hear of an accident, they will rush to the scene with their sirens blaring and take the victims to their facility for treatment.
“Sometimes two or three ambulances will show up at an accident scene in the bid for patients. The Ministry of Heath understands that this situation is spiralling out of control.”
A statement by the Ministry of Health on Monday evening said Malis Dangkor Polyclinic was fined 10,000,000 ($2,500) for using its ambulances to take road accident victims to its clinic for treatment even though the clinic was not called.
Dr Vorn, when contacted, admitted his actions and said he has stopped his ambulances picking up road accident victims.
“We know of three different hospital ambulances involved in this operation and we will be watching them closely. I will not allow such shameful behaviour to occur again,” he said.

It sounds okay considering they used to turn up and size up the victim then just clear off if they didn't look like they could pay. About ten years ago I was staying on 271 and there was an accident outside so I had a look. This poor old guy who rode a bicycle with tiny 10" wheels was possibly crossing the street and a mini van had smacked into him and the front was on top of him. He was still conscious and didn't have visible injuries so I at least wanted to lift the van off or do something to help but I was warned off by the local people. So the crowd dissipated and then there weren't so many people around. I came out to check a few times but he was still there under the van up to an hour later. I crashed out. I heard he eventually got picked up by an ambulance then he died a couple of days later in Russian Hospital. It was very sad and pathetic and I lost some faith in humanity that night.
