Cambodia cancels Water Festival for 3rd consecutive year
September 10, 2022
Cambodia on Friday decided to cancel the annual Water Festival, scheduled from Nov. 7 to 9 in the capital Phnom Penh, according to a government’s press statement.
This was the third consecutive year that the kingdom called off the premier event in Phnom Penh. However, provincial authorities could organize boat races in their respective localities on that occasion, the statement added.
Water Festival is one of the largest festivals in the Southeast Asian nation, attracting hundreds of thousands of people to the capital to enjoy a regatta along a stretch of the Tonle Sap River in front of the Royal Palace.
Cambodia reported a daily record of seven new local COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the national case tally to 137,696, with 134,557 recoveries and 3,056 deaths, the health ministry said, adding that no new deaths have been reported since April. Xinhua

Why don't we just blame it on Russia, or Hitler?
Orwell saw it coming, he knew what his countrymen were like
What role does Orwell’s countrymen - or his view of them - have to do with Phnom Penh cancelling the the Water Festival?youfcuk wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 11:37 amCOVID is such a great excuseFishHead Phil wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 9:06 amSeptember 10, 2022

Ahhh, who cares.
The water festival is basically just for people with a mindset of a 15 year old, not for intelligent grown ups like myself.
Ohhh, I just got wet....again. Zzzzz.
The only good thing about it, is watching young fit birds in soaked tight T shirts treat you like they know you, and want to connect by giving you a blast of water., when they otherwise wouldn't want to know you.

Thanks for telling us that you've never been to the Water Festival without telling us you've never been to the Water Festival.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 3:42 pmAhhh, who cares.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Naturally you warm to Orwell, vlad. He’s like a mirror to your soul - except he had talent. He too was an upper middle class public school educated jew hater whose poor life choices meant he ended his life in poverty and self loathing.
Lol @ spitthedog that is Thai. Pretty nice if you are in the right company, enjoy beer and watch pretty drunk girls in wet shirts.
The Khmer one is usually pretty lame with all the country folk flocking to Phnom Penh f*cking up traffic in half of the city. So it being banned again is great news! I 've seen it once around 2010, that was enough.... I don't care about some people rowing a boat, same excitement as watching Nascar going round and round *yawn*. At least you can hope for an epic crash in the latter...

You are both wrong. The Thai festival of Songkran corresponds with Khmer New Year (only the first day of the festival is called Songkran in Cambodia), held early in the year at the end of the dry season and both involve some water being thrown around. The Cambodian Water Festival is held at the end of the rainy season about six months later and is about boat races/ ancient river battles and the change in the flow of the Tonle Sap.

Citing him does not equate to approval. After all, I am quoting you, and you're an idiot whose sole response to anything they don't like or agree with is to label it.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 5:28 pmNaturally you warm to Orwell, vlad. Seems you dislike Jews, like Orwell, too. You didn't even afford the capitalization of their name. I did notice that despite your criticism of Orwell, you state he had talent. So, is he acceptable or not? Are you conflicted about other things?
Re poverty, I have enough. Re self-loathing, I'm having a ball!
You are unaware that every single government the world has ever seen, in every single country, controls people? And that the harshest forms of control have been experienced in even nominally 'democratic' countries?
You don't understand the distinction between normal people of any religion, and those that disgrace it. Sigh. Orwell hated Catholics, too, btw. I think you should have made better choices with regard to your own education.
By the way, the school in question was, and still is, a decidedly upper-class private school. But hey, no surprise that you're ignorant of that, too.
Have a nice day, but try and mix with smarter people, some of it may eventually rub off on you.
Back on topic: glad the government cancelled the festival. Might start off COVID again, and the huge crowds cause lots of problems: crime, sanitation, noise, traffic etc. Well done, HE!

The irony is, this has to be the shallowest understanding of either Orwell or public health policy I’ve ever encountered.
It reads as though in your mind literally any act of Government is Orwellian by default because “control”.
Yes. Those barely-legal Philippino teachers ain't gonna stalk themselves.zippidudodah wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 3:48 pm
