I always thought those 5 series were fabulous cars. Beautiful elegant lines and a feeling of real quality in the interior. Not as keen on the wagon though.
BMWs through the 1990s until about 2005 were so good (the E46 3Cis were about as beautiful a car as anthing ever) that they almost dragged this Merc tragic over to the dark side.
Thankfully Chris Bangle came along after that and quickly hosed down the idea that BMWs could be beautiful elegant things.

Not actually my car. Mine had tinted windows, sunroof, spoiler, different sidelights and wheels…but more or less the same.Petrol Head wrote:Ha! Old Garden State plates.xtreme wrote:Havent seen her in many years but I still love her….
Bought mine at 70,000 miles from the original grey market direct importer. Got it up to 200,000 before I let her go….

I almost bought an E30 but ended up with an E36 because it was just a bit younger. Both are very good looking cars that aged extremely well.
Watching the E30s chasing the 190Es around touring car tracks in the 1980s was a great sight.
Makes you realize how much bigger small German sedans have grown since the 1980s.

Not to try and cut the OPs lunch, but for potential buyers you want to be very careful with old BMWs in Cambodia because there just insn't the depth of second hand parts that there is with MB which will mean either extremely expensive replacement parts from BMW Cambodia or replacement with non OEM parts.
Mrs PH accidently reversed the E36 into my knee pinning me to another car and I put my fist through the back window in a defensive reflex action which meant we had to source new glass which was almost impossible. The car was never the same because the glass was not OEM and was not fitted correctly.
Last year I saw a late 1990s 735i in a garage and the Khmers could wait to rip out that beautiful unit and replace it with Prado Diesel powerplant.

JB the worst part is that she was so horrified she jumped out of the car to "help" and somehow locked the keys in the car.
...while knee was still pinned and my fist was bloody.
I had to pay a lithe Khmer to shimmey the hole in the glass to retrieve the key and free myself from the predicament.

yes, BMW spare parts are more expensive then jap. car brands, but are ready available nowadays in Phnom Penh. If not available they will truck it in from Thailand. Plenty of BMW's there. Never had a problem finding BMW parts, and i have never used the official BMW shop yet. You have to be prepared to pay more for parts if you want to drive a BMW, otherwise stick to the common Khmer choices.
