Potential problem with the CMOS battery on the motherboard because it resets the time whenever the machine restarts, which it sometimes does by itself. A new battery costs $3-5 and $10 skilled labor to replace, but PTC computer is too stupid to do it for free.

If PTC won't repair it after only 2 months, of what value is the warranty to the buyer?
The battery might be the reason for the time resetting, but it shouldn't make the machine restart by itself. There is probably another issue. If you don't want to lose $255, or if you can't find a buyer, maybe take it to Chantra or V-Tech. PTC truly sucks in many ways, and I will only occasionally buy peripherals or miscellaneous stuff from them. Never anything with a CPU!
Did you go to Sweet Memory Store yet?

Most have easy access to the battery and memory slots. Shouldn't be that difficult to replace the battery but agree there is probably something more going on than just that. That would explain PTCs reluctance to work on it also. You will need to send it in to the factory which is a pain in the ass from here as the shipping costs are horrendous.

Yeah. They didn't have the Raspberry Pi in stock but I bought a Kindle and another Chromecast. They said they'll call me when the new Pis get there and send me one to SHV next week. It's very far in a shitty part of town, cost me $8 for a return trip by Tuk Tuk from the riverside. They said they deliver free within PP, and $3 delivery charge for SHV. The Kindle is working great so far. I got the Paperwhite but they have the Voyage as well.chkwoot wrote: Did you go to Sweet Memory Store yet?
Not the battery you're thinking of. The CMOS battery is on the motherboard.Beaker wrote:Most have easy access to the battery and memory slots. Anyway I did something very uncharacteristic of myself. I went in there and yelled at them. And refused to leave until I could talk with a technician who does the actual repairs. The result is that they've agreed to replace the motherboard, and said they will call me when it gets there from Singapore in 3-4 weeks. I don't expect a call but I'll start bugging them on a daily basis after 2 weeks.
No that was the CMOS battery I was talking about.
