No not me.
Lonestar is my daily breakfast haunt when I am in PP as it is close to my place there and has very good food and is great value with bottomless coffee, plus Greg is a long term friend.
I would not buy Lonestar for two fundamental reasons.
1. I could not add value to this very good business. I develop new businesses or buy ones that are not performing. In short I do not want to buy existing goodwiil. I would sooner create it and sell it.
2. It would mean leaving Paradise Sur Mer and living in the Pig Pen. The only one who would be happy with that would be the girlfriend.
Good luck to both the New owner and Greg and Leak.

Now that an Aussie has bought the place, I fear it won't be too long until the glorious Lone Star Saloon is run into the ground with nothing but Rugby playing while the new owner's 2 best top bloke mates sit there in their tank top Chang Beer shirts, drinking the days away on the cheap Anchor.
How's Aussie XL doing?

Missus and two of her friends went to the International Food festival. One girl was who loves all foreigner things. The three of them ordered a plate of Chicken and Rice from the Indian booth. (Chicken Bryani?) Was told by the Indian owner in Khmer to not throw away the food. Most the food was tossed into the trash after a few bites. Then they went back to missus' place and cooked Khmer food with a big plate of rice.shitegeist wrote:I think Lone Star should reinvent itself as an Indian restaurant. Cambodians absolutely love Indian food. You could be in charge.
Comment on Indian food - no (Khmer) taste. Also comment on BBQ - not BBQ (Khmer).
Clearly there will be an adjustment period when she gets here.
Don't worry, be happy.

Do you ever make a comment that doesn't involve your missus? My wife loves Mexican and Indian food.newkidontheblock wrote:Missus and two of her friends went to the International Food festival. As the saying goes...You can take the girl out of the village but never the village out of the girl...
Whereas, other Khmer females I know are very much internationalised and love their wine and foreign foods and love coming to different restaurants and wine and cocktail bars.
But there again, a country bumpkin is usually always a country bumpkin...and is best left in the village.

Bravo to you and her! She sounds like a keeper for life. May you both a long and happy life together.shitegeist wrote:Actually no. She reserves a special kind of hatred for any kind of Khmer girl who marries a rich foreigner and feels superior because of it. I've a few friends who married bargirls, a couple of them posters here, and -- without meaning to go to go full newkidontheblock -- I don't think my wife holds any kind of negative feeling towards them. If anything she's vaguely sympathetic.
Don't worry, be happy.

Actually that was a lame attempt at sarcasm on my part. In my experience Khmer people hate Indian food, as you say. I don't know why.newkidontheblock wrote:Missus and two of her friends went to the International Food festival. One girl was who loves all foreigner things. Congrats and good luck to the family that owned Lone Star, they are friendly people who ran a terrific business and I wish them all the best.
Congratulations to Greg and the new owner.
I hope they don't change it too much. And I especially hope they continue with the Chili Cook-Off; I'm already planning the defense of my title!

I quite liked Lonestar the very few times I went, which wasn't often because of the pain in the arse location. It's like Rehabb - you have to decide you want to go there before visiting. It's not you r walk past and drop in type of location.

Both my girlfriend and her kids love Indian food and a visit at least once a week to our favorite Indian restaurant in Temple Town is a must.shitegeist wrote:Actually that was a lame attempt at sarcasm on my part. In my experience Khmer people hate Indian food, as you say. I don't know why.
