Solar panels and batteries
Solar panels and batteries
I'm thinking about putting solar panels on the rooftop some time next year. Including a battery solution. Like the Tesla Powerwall.
What company would I go to for such a thing?

In case the OP isn’t what Violet thinks, We have a 21,45kWp solar panels system with SMA hybrid inverters and BYD batteries that are in our opinion better suited for Cambodia than Tesla’s.
I can recommend our contractor by pm.

Think again woman. Don't know any solar panel installers in or outside Cambodia.
That sounds great. How much would it cost approx.?Barang_doa_slae wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 12:28 pmIn case the OP isn’t what Violet thinks, We have a 21,45kWp solar panels system with SMA hybrid inverters and BYD batteries that are in our opinion better suited for Cambodia than Tesla’s.

Probably on the high side as we required a 3 phases system.Rune wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 2:41 pmThat sounds great. Anyhow the cost was approximately
30k for the PV panels, 1 SMA 30kw hybrid inverter and 3 SMA 8kw inverters
10k per 10kw battery unit
All coming with a 10 years manufacturer guarantee.
Surprisingly it seems prices were about the same as in the USA/Australia (before state subsidies)
The RoI isn’t that great but the main benefit we were after is that our system is sized to be used as backup for power cuts. Long day time power cuts became a non issue as well as those occurring in the evening. As set, for those happening in the middle of the night or on very rainy days we still have 2 maybe 3 hours of back up.
Isn't the heat affecting performance?
I heard generating the power wasn't the issue, but stocking it was.

The problem, many make, looking into using solar is that they do not realize that trying to match the voltage to that of the power grid, here that is 200v. When what should be done, if one wants to live off grid is to use a 12 volt system. The cost will be @ 1/10 the price.
To do this take some change in lifestyle and thinking. You can not expect to use electric refrigeration so use gas instead. It works just as well and operation price wise is about the same.
Everything that one needs is available in 12 volt like LED lighting, stereo , and video systems. Instead of air conditioning use fans. Laptop computing instead of Desk tops, etc, etc.

Mine are of the LiFePO4 type which I believe is well suited. Simple ventilation in the technical room was necessary.

I am using solar to power a citu rental building not a mountain cabin.Beaker wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 4:55 pmThe problem, many make, looking into using solar is that they do not realize that trying to match the voltage to that of the power grid, here that is 200v. I rented a small wooden house a year back, it was outside Kep, and quite windy, so I though fans would be ok. I was wrong. oh, was I wrong. I'm not necessarily looking to go off-grid either. Just want to power my air-cons, etc. without having to constantly worry about my electricity bill and making Greta cry. Being able to power through the black-outs is great too.Beaker wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 4:55 pmThe problem, many make, looking into using solar is that they do not realize that trying to match the voltage to that of the power grid, here that is 200v. It's just a single family house though. I thought around 7-8 kW would be sufficient.Barang_doa_slae wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 3:25 pmProbably on the high side as we required a 3 phases system.Rune wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 2:41 pmThat sounds great.
