'Nonsense. It is recognised in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea. Outside of Asia though it's absolutely worthless'
If that is true, then it is not a proper TEFL course, which would be recognised world-wide.

Which 'quality' schools in Cambodia will recognize it? And, why did you do the CELTA after paying for the Language Corps certificate then?violet wrote:that price for LanguageCorps must be a typo. If they are charging that these days.... run a mile. Walk slowly away and do the CELTA anyway. It's worth it!
I've done both the LanguageCorps course and CELTA. I recommend the CELTA

Every school will accept it, even the crappy ones who have no clue what a CELTA is or means.Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote:Which 'quality' schools in Cambodia will recognize it? ACE require it with any application. ISPP and BISPP would obviously understand what it is and recognize it.Zaman, Western, can't think of any others now.

Isn't the question re. which schools accepting it to do with the LC cert, not CELTA?Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote:Which 'quality' schools in Cambodia will recognize it? Anyway, Isn't the real question: "what quality schools are there in Cambodia?"
Why did I do the CELTA? because I wanted to work as an English Language Instructor in countries (including my own) that would only accept CELTA or equivalent, and because I felt it would be of benefit to me personally.

He means the Language Corps cert., other than PUC.
I came, I argued, I'm out
Language Corp is recognized by many schools in China as well as southeast Asia. It is better than an online TESL program, but not as good as a CELTA. They do have some connections (and not just with PUC). But to teach in Cambodia, you don't need a TEFL or a TESOL or a CELTA. If you want to save some money, just come to Cambodia and find some teacher friends, or even just get your CV out anywhere you can. I did LanguageCorp and I found it over priced, but there are some helpful people within the program. It is a fairly easy program (in my opinion, and after graduate school, it should be a piece of cake). You also get to meet people going to Thailand, Vietnam, and China that might let you stay at their place when traveling.
A better question might be which schools in Phnom Penh care if you have a TESOL or CELTA. Modern International, Zaman sometimes accepts Language Corp Cert. American Pacific International, Sovannaphumi International. The only school I have found so far that doesn't accept it is ACE. But I do admit that I don't know every school in Phnom Penh that hires foreign teachers.

It's simple really. $20 per hour with a CELTA or $10 per hour with a LCorps cert.

it isn't even 100% true re. ACE... it all depends on what other skills, experience and quals you have.

ACE state very clearly in their adverts that without a degree and a CELTA, you're not in.violet wrote:it isn't even 100% true re. ACE... it all depends on what other skills, experience and quals you have.
Perhaps you meant they don't accept any TEFL/TESOL, as opposed to only the one from lC?

NO. I came close to securing a job with them and that was before doing the CELTA and when I only had the LC cert. It was only a slight lack in a particular required area of experience that meant it was a nay.
I know what they state. Know what everyone says. But sometimes.... that ain't the way it goes down when you get in and talk it through.
As I say, it DOES depend on the the combination of all things ... experience, quals, education, skills, blah blah blah. They won't be accepting someone rocking up with no experience and just a LC cert!!!

Right.I don't think many schools will, except possibly in the case of female kindergarten teachers.violet wrote:NO. The Language Corps eh. What can I say. They cater for scared kids fresh out of their country. Generally, young, middle class Americans. What they do offer however, is a gauranteed job at the end of the course, which for a lot of people is a winner. My advice, get a recognised cert in your own country.
